Hello all, Ive been lurking these forums and reading erowid as well as several other good informational sites for some time now, and I've finally decided to get into the wonderful world of psychoactives...
These are some shrooms I found going on a walk through my neighborhood:
species 1: [img=http://img529.imageshack.us/img529/9888/1000874an3.th.jpg] [img=http://img295.imageshack.us/img295/9971/1000875nn3.th.jpg] [img=http://img295.imageshack.us/img295/4206/1000876vv0.th.jpg] Habitat: Found on front lawn growing in grass Gills: Gills are white/tan color Stem: Whitish color Cap: Brown, smooth, somewhat soggy Spore print color: Dont know how to take :[ Bruising: Not sure Location: Missouri
species 2 I actually found a couple weeks back. Its dry and arid now. Also smells like honey strangely..also, looking at the thread "sexy cubes" it looked almost exactly like those when it was fresh..although the shroom FAQ says cubes do not grow in missouri [img=http://img520.imageshack.us/img520/1857/1000880hr6.th.jpg] [img=http://img529.imageshack.us/img529/5536/1000879gg0.th.jpg] Habitat: growing in backyard on grass gills: grayish color now Stem: white/gray Cap: White convex caps, smoothish Spore print: not taken Bruising: not sure Location: Missouri
Sorry for the noobishness. Hopefully I'll get better at this. Also looking at that sexy cubes thread..a lot of those pics look EXACTLY like what I had growing in my backyard a few weeks ago..but I paid no mind at the time and mowed over them...rofl gg
edit: pictures fixed

Hey man, i'm fairly new at this whole thing too, but spore prints are cake. Get a piece of white paper, and if you've got it black paper and set em down. Put a cap of the specimen half on one half on the other (for white stains or light colours you'll be able to tell thanks to the black..) I've heard put a cup over em to keep em from drying out too quick and just let em be for a while. Then look at the colour afterwards . Once your picture loads i'll take a shot at identifying =D.

Indeed, Pluteus cervinus the Deer Mushroom, for the first ones. They are edible. http://mushroomexpert.com/pluteus_cervinus.html
Second species looks like Chlorophyllum molybdites, or Green Gills. A poisonous species typically found growing from grass. http://mushroomexpert.com/chlorophyllum_molybdites.html

Just want to point out, you're not looking for "almost exactly", you're looking for "exactly". Down to every tiny detail. The stem on the mushrooms you found is brown with a light brown veil, and on cubes the stem is generally a pale yellow, and the veil a vibrant white underneath, and dark purple on top because of the spores. These differences are important to note – its not just something the sun did to it or anything, it's a characteristic that helps you know that it's not a cube. It either looks exactly like a cube should, at all stages, or it doesn't. Cubes don't grow in backyards (unless you have shit lying around). I'm just saying this in case it saves you from eating something you really want to believe is a cube, but simply isn't. What you've got there is one of the most commonly mistaken cube lookalikes. The worst part is they have definitive characteristics that separate them from cubes, but people want to believe they've found a psychoactive mushroom growing in their backyard so badly.
Also, you say "not sure" on the bruising. With cubes, and most psychoactive shrooms, the bruising is very obvious, and very blue. You can't miss it. And it's blue – not purple, not red, not brown – BLUE. And they grow on shit.

This is a distinct possibility. However, the gills, even dried and shriveled, do not look green to me.

I agree with curecat about the second one. Chlorophyllum molybdites.
