incubation help
    #8691788 - 07/28/08 10:09 AM (16 years, 5 months ago)

I have a double tub system set at about 85 degrees (a little high cuz its cold in my house) and have been running blue meanie and puerto ricans, ive been having a problem with my inoculation to culture times. my prs take about an entire month to get close to 100%, and my blue meanies even longer.

Im using 4 cups of pced rye berries in filtered spawn bags, three in a incubator, double tubbed at 85 degrees in a cold home... im inoculating with liquid culture. what do i need to do to get those famed culture times of prs?

You may actually be slowing things down by keeping the heat up so high, remember that its always hotter in the jar than it is in the incubator, try aiming for the 80 degree mark or so.I know you said your house is cold but unless its REALLY cold you may wanna ditch the incubator.

Many people like to incubate their jars,I am not one of them and have had better success in the past with just leaving them at room temp "Incubating" on a shelf so as to not increase to the higher temps that bacterial contamination seems to thrive in so well
