Spiritualized®

So last night I saw the band Spiritualized® in concert for the second time. The first time I saw them, back in autumn @ the Apollo Theater, it was an Acoustic performance that brought me to tears more than once. Last night they played a full electric set, and I had the luck to see them in a 550-capacity venue - they're currently on a major U.S. tour playing to crowds of 2500+ in every city they visit. It was something special.
Spiritualized® was a band I took a long time to get into. I had heard bits and pieces here and there and never really given them a chance. Then my ex-girlfriend's older brother and I were drunk one night and he put 40 bucks in my hand. He told me to go out and buy their 2-disc set Live At Royal Albert Hall and to listen to it on mushrooms. He said if I wasn't a Spiritualized® fan after that, I could keep the $40. Well I did exactly as he asked, and six hours later, standing on the Brooklyn Bridge resplendent in the sunshine, I was a convert.
If I were you I wouldn't download random songs to get into Spiritualized®...they're an album band. I'd suggest Ladies And Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space... it's an amazing album about heartbreak and drugs. Lead singer Jason Pierce (formerly of the equally amazing Spacemen 3) is a drug addict supreme...he was actually pronounced clinically dead once after a heroin overdose but came back out of it. Ladies and Gentlemen was an album recorded soon after Pierce's girlfriend left him for Richard Ashcroft of The Verve, and he went down a dark spiral. "Sometimes have my breakfast right off of a mirror - and sometimes i have it right out of a bottle."
If I had to describe Spiritualized®'s music to someone, I'd call it "psychedelic rock gospel" and I think people who do drugs would frankly get more out of it than people who don't. It's very druggy music, and superb to trip to. I'm posting my favorite song of theirs in this thread...hope some of you take this post to heart and wind up checking out Spiritualized®...!

Edit: the song was too big to attach! Whoops.

I answer that question in the first sentence of the last paragraph of my first post. It's really it's own thing...it's rock and roll music, but it's also psychedelic gospel music.

If the files weren't so goddamn big (my copy of the album was ripped at 192 bitrate) I'd upload the album to divshare right now and post a link, but we've got storms here and my internet is spotty.

Awesome. Smoke a fattie, and wait til yer feeling a lil lonely to put it on.
Track 1 kills me.
"Ladies and gentlemen, we are floating in space."
All I want in life's a little love to take the pain away...

I've been grooving on them and Spacemen 3 for years. Like 20 years or so. Great band. Hell any band that makes an album called Taking Drugs to Make Music to Take Drugs To is alright with me.

I would love to see them live. Living in NY must be off the chain.

You'll like this too, about Ladies and Gentlemen...
Originally packaged in a box designed to resemble prescription medicine, the album was complete with "dosage advice" and a foil blister pack containing the CD. An ultra-limited edition featured each song on its own individually wrapped 3-inch CD, in a large blister pack, further striving to convey the music's medicinal quality, and intending each track to be a sort of "tablet for consumption."
