The pf tek for simple minds says that tap water can be used usually. The only way it would contaminate IMO is if there's something wrong with the water line. With the amount of pollutants that are showing up in water, however, i'd just be safe and buy a gallon of drinking water for under a buck. Better safe than sorry.

A fully colonized cake is resistant to contamination. Tap water is fine. RR knows what he's doing.

Dunk it. I used tap on mine and I have 12 healthy cakes.

I use tap water for everything.  Spore solution, LC's, for ingredients for BRF/Verm, for spraying my casings.

Tap water is fine unless you have some aweful water or something.. highly unlikely to have a problem with tap water.

my tap contains a high content of iron or something, anyway something always settles to the bottom after a while. i buy bottled water or use collected rain water.

tap is good for dunking too, as someone said below fully colonized cakes defend themselves.
