So I'm thoroughly enjoying my grow, as are friends, however, I've put some of the rather thick mushrooms away for myself, for "those days." You know the ones I'm talking about. But.. Since I've never grown my own and only bought, I've gotten rather average looking shrooms, so I was never really sure if there was a potency difference.. I have one particular mushroom that I cut open today out of curiousity, that had patches of blue from bruising, indicating potency.. Very DARK blue, the entire inside however was white and very thick, completely full, and snow white.. with lines of blue all through the outter flesh, it's very soft but dry inside.. This thing weighs two grams dry and the cap opened, but didn't drop spores, and the cap is all blue but not blue inside.. Is this thing going to be extra potent? I don't want to over do it!
I figure some of you experts will have experience with these "lucky" mushrooms, especially since these cambodians are mostly hallow.

really don't know what your talking about but since you grow your own and they are as fresh as you'll ever get, of course they're gonna be good.

It's not fresh, it's dried.

Bluing has absolutely zero to do w/ potency. Just so you know.

Biochemistry and pharmacology psilocybin molecule
The blue-staining species of Psilocybe are characterized by the presence of psilocin and psilocybin. The blue-staining reaction, while not completely understood, is thought to be a caused by a degradation reaction of psilocin, hence the degree of bluing in a Psilocybe fruiting body correlates directly with the concentration of psilocin in the mushroom. Psilocybin is chemically far more stable than psilocin, the latter compound being largely lost when the mushroom is heated or dried.

Source? I read "not completely understood" and "thought to be caused by" followed by a statement construed as fact...
Edit: Wiki. Shoulda known.
