My thoughts: Your wal-mart is run by nazi bastards. If you cut out a lid be carefull, don't use a big kitchen knife like I did for the first FC it's asking for blood. If you go to wally world there has got to be some big 64 quarts or something at least. I'd suggest looking again.

I think the fruits will still try and grow upward providing you give it adequate FAE. Having them in a small container isn't that big of a deal yield wise.
You never gave the height of the terrarium. 6.5x13x?
Also Michigan FTW.

as said before the amount of space is not going to majority effect the yield of mushrooms. the same amount will grow except they will be mushed or tangled when everything is ready.

6.5 is really stretching it for height, you could cut windows in the sides instead of the top to encourage them to grow more horizontally if you don't want to deal with tangled mushies.

i bet ya after your first grow you will be so unimpressed with the yield that you will not only switch the terrarium but also switch to grain/bulk substrates.

The other problem is that when the shrooms grow into a wall or ceiling, they can actually knock themselves off of the cake, effectively "uprooting" themselves and halting further growth.

that sounds like it would work if you silicon glue them together
it may be a pain though not having an easily removable ceiling
i would jus buy another tub from walmart much easier imo

You'll need a terrarium at least twice that tall. Every hardware store worth its salt has many sizes of rubbermaid or sterlite containers. The problem with tiny fruiting chambers is there is nowhere for the excess gasses to go, in addition to room for the mushrooms. Here's my suggestion for a terrarium tek. It's proved itself viable over thousands of grows. RR
