Ask a question to Albert Hofmann....
    #860576 - 09/03/02 02:02 AM (21 years, 6 months ago)

Hi,
If you had the opportunity to ask a question to Albert Hofmann, the scientist who discovered LSD, which would it be? Remember, just one question, and its the only opportunity in your life....

I would ask him if he feels like he was entitled of a mission, something he had to show to the world...or..

i have soo many questions i would like to ask him...

Peace!

You guys should read one of the many articles he's written about it before you ask the question. He's answered most of these already.

Here is an account of the creation and first deliberate trip, and here is the full book.

Enjoy.

It occurred to me after I posted that I should have also mentioned that one of the greatest researchers on psychedelic chemistry has a web site and answers questions online.

If you haven't heard of Dr. Alexander Shulgin, you should have. He invented more of the psychedelic phenethylamines and tryptamines than anybody and researched their effects on himself first and then other volunteers. He was shut down by the DEA about 10 years ago for his publication of the book PIHKAL. Before that he worked as a consultant chemist for the DEA (and many others) and testified at many trials.

His page is here. If you want to ask him a question, that's what the page is about.

You could read his book, 'LSD: My Problem Child,' which would probably answer most of your questions, or you could write him, care of the book's publisher. I did, and I have a few personal letters from Dr. Hofmann, one of which I have intended to turn into one of those brass-on-wood plaques.

Ahhhh.... you went in search of intelligent life... i was wondering why you deleted your post in OTD.

My question is still the same, I'd ask him what kind of bike he rides

Thats right Smack31, actually i consider it to be a very good question and hope he can remember:)
But again folks, try to be imaginative, as it has been said, many questions have been answered already... read his main autobiographical work: http://www.lycaeum.org/books/books/my_problem_child/

Do you remeber how many pioneers left us in the last years: McKenna, Lilly, Janinger, and so many more... It might be the last possibility to ask him (i wish him of course to get as old as Mathusalem but you know, its not in my hands:).

I definetely wanna know if he ever tripped with his kids (Dieter and Ernst and???) and what was the outcome?
And why he never really moved out of switzerland (addicted to chocolate perhaps...or just the best place on Earth?)

dr hofmann also wrote a book called in english _insight outlook_ (i think translated by jonathan ott?) which covers some of his more philosophical musings... well worth checking out...

how many times have you tripped
Albert Hofmann says he has tripped about 20 times, and were more than enough.
