Newbie Sterlilization Question

I'm doing this for the first time using the PF Tek. I put my brf jars in a 10psi pressure cooker for 1 hour with the jars out of the water. Is that enough time for sterility?

Yes. Most pressure cooker times are for 15psi, but if an hour of regular steam from boiling water will work for brf cakes, then 10 psi should work too.

Most growers would recommend 90 minutes, as well as 15 psi, rather than 10. But it might not turn out that bad since you're using PF rather than grains. Some people even get away with it by boiling for 60 minutes.
I say if you can put it in one more time for 90 minutes this time, it wouldn't be a waste.

Did you get an instruction booklet with your PC? The PC comes with a trivet which goes into the PC first. If you do not have a trivet, use a dishtowel. Either method keeps your jars from breaking. Next, (I add the water first to keep my jar tops from getting wet), add enough water so that when you put all your jars in, the water comes up to about two inches. You can put the jars in first if you think that it's easier. Then you want to place the PC on the stove and turn the burner on high. This is to get the water to a boil faster, you will turn it down! After you see steam escaping from the vent pipe in the center of the lid, turn the heat down to about half, and place the pressure regulator on the vent pipe. You should have both rings on the pressure regulator, (this is 15lbs). Check your instructions to make sure yours is the same as I am describing. Once the regulator begins to constantly jiggle gently back and forth, turn the heat down as far as you can while still getting that gentle rocking of the pressure regulator. Only at this point do you start the timer. 1 full hour at 15lbs! Remove from heat and let the pressure abate on it's own. Once you can safely open the PC, do so, and using clean oven mitts or a towel, shake the VERY HOT jars to loosen the grain and even the moisture. I like to place my jars back in the PC to cool completely. I drain the water first. I do this because as the jars cool, they "inhale" air through the GE port and I don't want them to inhale my wife's farts... Once the jars have COOLED COMPLETELY you can do with them what you will.
If your PC only goes up to 10lbs of pressure, you should increase the PCing time to 90 minutes.
I hope this helps.
