I downloaded mgmt from the indie album thred and loved it. No more then a day later its on MTV. I guess I'm happy for MGMT to gain popularity but I wish they could stayed indie. Your 2 cents are greatly appreciated yay or nay.

MGMT = a flash in the pan. A blip on the radar. Nothing more.

They're not worthless but they're hardly the second coming. I work at music venues that mainly cater to indie rock bands, and MGMT is just another in a long line of brief explosions, I'd be surprised if their second record was any good. (I only think there are two truly good songs on their first anyway, the rest is just...listenable.) Also, seen them live twice, and yawn.

i think MGMT is excellent. tracks 1, 4, & 5 are my favorites. produced by Dave Fridmann, you can hear the similarities to the flaming lips.

Who needs another Flaming Lips? Self Masterbatory prog rock of the worst order from what I've recently heard.

I'd rather hear something good and completely different.
But I was talking out of my ass calling them self masterbatory prog rock.
I actually like some of their stuff.

Me neither, unless the band changes who they are to gain popularity, or sell more singles. Like No Doubt, or more specifically Gwen Stephani. She sold her soul to the pop music industry.

The first 4 songs on that cd are great and then the rest of it goes downhill steeply.

It's because people self-identify with the groups they listen to and feel possesive of "their bands" like they own them or sumshit.
Which is odd when you realize the band doesn't even know they exist.

Newish bands that I think are absolutely phenomenal and built to last:
Yeasayer Bon Iver Holy Fuck The Dodos
