poured plates in my glove box... do i need to re-sterilize?
    #8677183 - 07/24/08 05:15 PM (16 years, 5 months ago)

okay, last night around 6 in the evening, i poured a bunch of agar plates in my glovebox, which is in my closet/"lab".  a bunch of people came over while i was waiting for them to solidify, so i had to leave the lab.  i covered the holes to my box with bleach soaked paper towels, closed the door to the closet, and haven't been back in there since (cept once just a little while ago to grab one thing i left in there, and it still smelled bleachy as hell in there) so i didn't get a chance to parafilm them.  They are still just sitting in my still air box.

My question is, do i need to open up the box and re-sterilize the whole inside of it again, or would it be sufficient to just spritz a little bleach and/or alcohol in the hands holes, wait a bit, then wipe down the outsides of my dishes with some alcohol before i make transfers...?

it seems like opening the box would introduce more to the outside of the dishes (which i will be wiping down before anyway, but they are un-parafilmed as is, so potential lid lifts...), where as just leaving it, something nasty could have gotten into the air that's floating around in it right now cause it's been sitting for so long...
sorry for the long winded post

are the petri dishes closed? just no parafilM?

if they are closed, then yeah, before you start working again re sterilize, not a big deal really, u should be doing that anyhow.

i know i should be doing it anyhow, i was just worried cause i didn't parafilm them; but yes, they are closed, just no parafilm.... if they weren't closed, i would just tos them as they would more than likely be garbage now... i'm just going to leave them in there, and clean it out and wipe them down.

oh, i know i'm already pimpin....  re-sterilized all, and x-ferred plates....

here's what i x-ferred from:

as you can see i made a few transfers from these already, but they were well grown over... all those wedges were taken out from what was the edge of the my at that point...

edit: pic #1 and #3 are the same plate, and pics #4 and #6 are the same... i'll have some more pics of the transfers that i made once they start growing pretty good=
