I'm not sure what this is and/or if it is bad.
    #8676085 - 07/24/08 11:56 AM (16 years, 5 months ago)

Sorry for the poor quality. Trying not to give these babies too much light. Ideas? Ive heard some yellowing is normal, but this is a bit more than discoloration. This jar is the only one with it. It became fully colonized a couple days ago, and the plan is to birth it tomorrow.

Those spots don't look white to me.......

looks like you may have a contam, sorry man.

But I'm a noob, so i cant really say from experience but my jars are pure white; and from what i understand ANY color other then white or metabolites(a little yeallowish liquid) is bad, Id definitely keep that jar away from the others until someone with more experience can answer.

looks just like some condensation to me. I haven't seen any type of contam like that.

I have spots that looked like that in my PF jars way back in the day. They were just fine.

Just let it grow a few more days in the jar, if it turns any other colors, it might be contamed, if not, then birth it and see. I still think it's just some condensation.

Looks like metabolites. Nothing to worry about. If it continues to spread, and cover your entire cake it may be a contam. I'm pretty sure its metabolites.

Probably just metabolites. You will find out tomorrow before you birth it. When you open the jar take a sniff of it if it smells like mushrooms its fine if not toss it in a hole in the backyard.

Condensation inside the jars is typical at that stage. I'm not sure from the pic what that discoloration is, but myc piss will leave a urine colored liquid in your jar and is nothing to worry over.

However, that jar doesn't appear that way in the pic. The myc itself appears to have the color. It may be trying to fruit invitro. Birth it and fruit separately until your sure.

Great job by the way. +5 for you

Yeah, it does look like the myc itself is colored, and that it is growth of some sort. It's definitely interesting.

Since there are 30 jars, let's birth it now and see what happens. If it IS already trying to fruit, may as well, eh?

1. NEVER sniff a jar that could be contaminated, this is dangerous and a NOOB thing to do.. when i doubt, throw it out.

2. That is not a conatm, it's normal, it's either invitro pinning, or aggressive mycelium/primordia.

3. Just birth it it's fine.

Yep. Sniff it, and you could end up in the hospital in a month or so. With an infection of one of your major organs. Don't believe me? Try it.

I got a bacterial infection but it wasn't due to mushrooms...It came from the hospital that I was kept in for 2 months. Bastards.

Is it getting a lot of light? Its starting to look like its going invitro on you. I thought it was metabolites, but now looking more like growth. Fruit it...If its fully colonized.

If they've only been colonized a few days, I'd wait 3 or 4 more to birth.

Then dunk n' roll.

Followed by rock n' roll.  :rockman:

Or spawn it to horse poo or a good coir recipe and wait 7 to ten days for it to colonize. Then get this: 18 ozs of fresh mush to dry to 35 grams of fungitastic wave action...

I picked them yesterday and dried them overnight.

That jar is ready to be spawned or broken up and cased with 50/50. Congrats. Your Jar looks great. I've had plenty that looked like that and turned out sexy.

Don't dunk and roll a cake that has already started to fruit. Let it do its first flush, and then dunk and roll.

Exactly.

However I wouldin't recommend rolling at all if you fruit directly from jar which is what I would do with that one. The reason is after your first flush your cake would then be using it's leftover energy to get rhizo growth past the verm.

To me, you would be going backward a step in the fungai energy process. Once you have established the pinning triggers on a cake I don't think it is wise to try to get it to colonize some more even if it is only verm.

this cake is perfectly fine to use in an manner you please, all of the above advice is just asking to waste time, energy, and product, spawn it to coir or manure, fruit it like a cake, do whatever you had originally planned, i've had cakes do this also, and i've had grain jars do it, it's not so unusual, to me it reminds me of it trying to form sclerotias, whilet hat IS NOT the case, they are perfectly fine to use however you had planned.

so, before these loads of advice that aren't to par, what WAS your original plan when the cakes were ready??
