i got a WBS cased with 50/50 tek sitting in my fc on day 5. the humidity is between 95 and 100%25 and temp is between 68 and 72 degrees all the time. now i have had brf cakes that showed pinning already so i was just wondering how long it usually takes at the longest to pin out when cased?

I always see pins right around 9 days. It varies.. I would say 7-10 days is a good estimate. Temp seems slightly low but should be ok..

Casings take a little longer. Did you incubate the trays first?

yeah i incubated for 4 days (until the mycelium was in the valleys) looks like every pic ive seen of a good casing. its really hard to keep my temp in the 70's cause im in the basement. i also forgot to mention i am using a cool mist so fae should be good right? i got 6 2 1/2 inch holes for exhaust filled with poly fill.

I personally don't like using cool mist. I like to do it the old fashioned way. It should be going fine. It takes longer for casings, and I also might try to fan a 2-3 times a day along with the cool mist. Or maybe fan a couple more times, and eliminate the cool mist. You can keep it and see what happens. It sounds like its going good. Some pictures would help get more/better responses.

Sweet. Mushrooms are never too small to take a quick glance at, but get some up soon.

hey this is a different question about pinning and the growing of mushrooms, but does the majority of the growth take place while exposed to light or during the dark cycle?

after the pinset is set, I don't even use light, they already know which way to grow, I find they grow a lot faster in the dark. Anyone else doing this? anyhow, im sure plenty disagree, hyphae even, but i wish i had the link but i can recall some person asking about this, and someone posted along the lines and confirmed that when hyphal knots are formed and the first pins are seen, then it's already harcoded in the dna, so no more light is needed.
maybe eventually i'll stagger across that link.

I'm really not sure of the answer on this one, but I would like to know.
I would say that they probably do most at night. I watch them during the day, and it seems like when I goto sleep and wake up the next morning they have grown more.
Could be the fact that I haven't seen them in a few hours though.

yeah i have been wondering that for a while, but always seem to forget to ask or look it up. it does seem though that they freeze during the light cycle, however i have read about people keeping the lights on and still producing decent fruit...

OP - I still have yet to see pinners on my wbs coir/coffee bulk so dont feel too bad. I spawned it and incubated for like 9 10 days before I had the chance to move it. You ever get any pics?

ok i woke up this morning i usually turn the light on at 6:00 am, but i decided not to. well now its 11:30 and the pins have doubled in size, and i got two pins that pushed the casing away from the tray and are growing out of the side of the tray...... is this ok? or should i cut them so i dont get aborts down on the side where i cant see...... that doesn't got me sitting to well... should i pull them? ill go take some pics

the side pins r fine, they'll grow, and i've been researching about dark/light with shrooms, and what i'm finding is once all your hyphal knots and pins start to appear happen, light is no longer needed, and the fruits grow faster and larger.
i've been toying with this for some time.

hmm.... well i am using the bottom of a gallon jug so its kind of flimsy.... the mushroom pushed the side away so the whole side of the substrate and casing all the way down is now exposed. that is really interesting about the daylight stuff. i fell it made a tremendous difference just in the few hours i left it off

i have a digital hygrometer that i calibrated and is on and was going off of that. then i got a analog one and calibrated it and stuck that in my fc also. when i left they both read the same and when i got home the digital one was at 98% but the analog one was at 70%. i think i believe the analog one more so what should i do? could this be why i am only seen minimal pins and they are on the edge of the casing?
here are some pics
