Hey kids,
Well I wanted to bring up the rapper Immortal Technique for discussion. I just re-discovered this guy. I've known about him for a couple of years since he dropped his huge track Bin Laden.
I figured IT was an underground sensation who was a one hit wonder with that track. However, recently while putting together bumps for my show and listening to a bunch of different music to get ideas of what I want to sample. I started listening to a bunch of Immortal Technique. Oh my god this guy is amazing. I generally tune out of rap and r&b because most of it is so mindless and stupid and pathetic. Just my opinion. However, once in awhile a MC or a rap group will come out that will absolutely blow my mind and make me a fan. Immortal Technique is such an artist. I heard his track Jedi Mind Tricks and it absolutely blew my mind. His rhymes and lyrics are absolutely amazing, he's so smart yet so gritty and combines all these crazy different philosophies in his rhymes. I really like this guy and would encourage you to check him out.

Yea Immortal Technique is filthy.

Immortal Technique is awesome. Dance with the Devil... I have a hard time listening to. It's too... wrong.
Anyone hear of Necro? He's pretty bad w/ lyrics (like dance w/ the devil) but more funny.
2 of my favorite songs by him is "I Need Drugs" and "Who's Your Daddy"

Immortal is the fucking man. Listen to Peruvian Cocaine... crazy song. The 4th Branch is also really good. Dance with the Devil just just depressing.

Peruvian Cocaine is good, but my favorite song is Obnoxious. I know every line to that song.... My favorite lines are:
"Give me a hundred grand, gimme your watch, gimme your chain. That's your girl? bitch get over here gimme some brain. ill bust on her face and right after the segment shell probably rub it in her pussy, try to get herself pregnant..."
&
"Damn homie, when I was in high school I beat the shit outta you and ya man homie. your girl wanna blow me and dont even know me, she lonely and think you a phony, I'll take a piss on her development deal from sony or Def Jam..."

Yeah you know I think his beats are kind of weak and lame and under produced. Some of them are interesting, but for the most part I find myself not that into them. It could be said that this helps Immortal Technique because since you're not paying attention to the beat you're paying attention to him flow. But I'd be interested to see what IT would sound like working with an established rap producer. I know IT is fiercely independent and extremely DIY but I'd like to see him collaborate in the future.

IT is truly a great lyricist. You mentioned that he did a song called Jedi Mind Tricks, though... which album was that on?
I'm familiar with the band Jedi Mind Tricks (which is coincidentally my favorite rap group), and they exhibit much the same level of intelligence in their lyrics and have some sick beats to back it up. If IT did do a collaboration with Jedi Mind Tricks, I'd definitely be interested to know which song it was.

Jedi Mind Tricks are good too.... its not about the beats for immortal technique... its about the message. He's underground, he's not Jay-Z or Kanye West, it's not about that.
Listen to The Message and The Money if you don't understand.

I hardly ever listen to it, but it's just such a "good" song that one cannot simply ignore it.
As for "Jedi mind tricks" the Dance w/ the Devil track I have has that on after as if it's the same track or possibly a hidden one

I love this guy, I like what he's saying and I love that he stopped himself from cursing at first and then apologizes because there's kids there and then proceeds to say "motherfucker" every other word.

I like Point of no return too
-------------------- "How do we know whether the life of any creature has fulfilled its destiny? I have known the very old to die in bitterness and despair. I have seen young children die before their time but leave behind such a legacy of love and joy that grief for their passing was tempered by the knowledge that their brief lives had given much to others." "You have answered your own question,Tanis Half-Elven, far better than I could," the Forestmaster said gravely. "Say that that our lives are measured not by gain but by giving." -Dragonlance "Dragons of Autumn Twilight" If we lived in luxury we would grow soft. No human being truely knows their full capacity to love until they become a parent.

Canibus is also a really good underground rapper. I LOL'd when he managed to use "magnetohydrodynamics" in one of his lyrics, I shit you not.
