Concerta instead of Adderall for homework help?

I plan on stocking up Adderall for the upcoming college year for emergencies. I unfortunately am not prescribed the medication. I hope to get a diagnosis and prescription when the year starts. Anyways, I was offered a deal on Concerta from someone.
I know they're both ADHD medications, but would Concerta also be a good choice for massive studying, homework, all-nighters, etc? I'm not really finding a lot of information about whether or not it works well for this.
Thanks.

Well, it probably would help for those purposes, although you have to remember that Adderal is an amphetamine while Concerta is not. Make of that what you will....

i think if you are looking for adderall effects you won't find them in concerta. i hated ritalin and all the little analogues/time releases it had. they all sucked compared to adderall

Look into generic amphetamine salts if you are trying to avoid the high price tag of adderall. My "amphetamine salt" prescription runs about $60.00 without insurance, for a month supply. (90 10mg tablets) If I were to go with adderall, instead of the generic, I would be paying somewhere between 400 and 600.

Then you're not getting them with out insurance of some kind. Someone is paying for it, even if it isnt you.

i've heard from a ton of people adderall is pretty cheap. 600 a bottle for anything seems a little steep, especially for a non-pk. im not doubting you though

Close, but that's not quite the whole story. Concerta has a really high tech time release mechanism that delivers the methylphenidate over a long period of time.
From RXlist:
Quote:
CONCERTA® uses osmotic pressure to deliver methylphenidate HCl at a controlled rate. The system, which resembles a conventional tablet in appearance, comprises an osmotically active trilayer core surrounded by a semipermeable membrane with an immediate-release drug overcoat. The trilayer core is composed of two drug layers containing the drug and excipients, and a push layer containing osmotically active components. There is a precision-laser drilled orifice on the drug-layer end of the tablet. In an aqueous environment, such as the gastrointestinal tract, the drug overcoat dissolves within one hour, providing an initial dose of methylphenidate. Water permeates through the membrane into the tablet core. As the osmotically active polymer excipients expand, methylphenidate is released through the orifice. The membrane controls the rate at which water enters the tablet core, which in turn controls drug delivery. Furthermore, the drug release rate from the system increases with time over a period of 6 to 7 hours due to the drug concentration gradient incorporated into the two drug layers of CONCERTA®. The biologically inert components of the tablet remain intact during gastrointestinal transit and are eliminated in the stool as a tablet shell along with insoluble core components.
That said, I used to take 54mg Concerta. 36mg wasn't enough and 54mg was a bit too much, was never really happy with the stuff. It never worked as well as Adderall XR. Aside from that, the crash was the absolutely horrible. I felt like shit and it made me become the biggest asshole ever, I was VERY irritable.
For some people it works wonders though

Concerta has a lot of countermeasures against abusing the drug. I'm prescribed it but people want to buy it off of me all the time for some reason. One time some guy came back and complained that he had "expanding green jelly" in his nose. So dont do the insufflation thing that's real trendy with adderall nowadays. Take orally with water.

Yeah, I'm that way now. I'm taking the generic, which isnt time released, and I'm coming down really hard 3 times a day. By the 3rd time I'm the biggest dick in the world, and I cant really stand to be around anyone. I have to time it just right or else I just end up furious riding home on the city bus struggling not to choke the life out of everone around me. Irritable doesnt even begin to describe how I feel.

Yeah, irritable is putting it lightly. If you looked at me wrong after the Concerta wore off you might get bitched out. When my girlfriend, family, and friends complained that it was making me an asshole, thats the point that I changed medications.
I think a large part of that was 54mg was too much. But, like I said, 36 mg wasn't nearly enough.
And as far as the expanding green jelly bean goes, I seriously laughed out loud. When I decided to ditch the concerta, being the nerd that I am I decided to dissect the pills and check out it's solubility in different solvents. When you put the pills in isopropyl alcohol, they did nothing. If you put them in water... they turned into an expanding green jelly bean

Apparently the jelly is how the amphetamines are ejected from the capsule, since the capsule never actually dissolves, the jelly expands and pushes the good stuff out through tiny holes in the sides.
Concerta is good for loosing 20 pounds in a week and turning into a big grumpy asshole that never has to sleep.

Yeah, I lost a shitload of weight when I was on Concerta. Like 50lbs over 6 or 7 months. But then again I was a fat ass. I was 6'4" and 295lbs back then. That was welcome weight loss

Concerta sucks compared to Adderall and Adderall sucks compared to Dexedrine.

That depends what you are using it for. If you're just going for a mild speedy rush, then Dexedrine is the way to go. However if you are looking for help focusing, or are using it as an apatite suppressant, adderall is superior by far.
