Because of a myth that stems from other types of mushrooms that need be cold shocked. Cubes do not need a cold shock and will not benefit from it. But it wont hurt them unless it freezes.

What he said. Some benefit, and some don't. Cubensis DO NOT. It won't kill it if you think about it...It gets cold in the winter, and the mycelium doesn't die. Same thing here. It slows it down like crazy though.

The reason for dunking in the refrigerator during summer months is that the lower temperature helps to hold bacterial contamination to a minimum. If you have AC in your house, you can dunk at room temperature. It's not about cold shocking. RR

back when i first did cakes, i cold shocked, and then one time i did't and it did better and started pinning sooner then when i had coldshocked,, so i quit coldshocking, then, i started doing bulk, and u can't cold shock 100 invitro poobags, not enough fridge space. Nor does it do anything.
coz cold shocking, is, useless...for ps.cubensis that is.
it's like, the myth that copelandias are hard to grow, when in reality, it's much easier then cubensis cultivation.

WHY in all capital reminds me of my nephew when he has a tantrum. Just post your topic normally, people will see it don't worry. Like jeetered said cold shocking cubes is pretty much an outdated myth, people used to think it initiated pinning or something. There are probably some species that cold shocking works for, but it's not cubes. I keep them in the fridge anyways for convenience and cleanliness, and as an extra precaution since I use fresh tapwater. With cakes though, you almost have to try to contaminate them once they are colonized.

If you want to get people to look at and respond to your posts, use descriptive subject lines. "Why" "What" and "A Question" describe just about every post on this board. A descriptive subject will bet the attention of people who are qualified to answer and interested in helping. If you really want to get good responses, exhaust the search engine first and, if you still need info, give a quick summary of how you tried to answer the question before making a new post. People on this board are incredibly helpful towards even the newest posters IF the poster seems like4 they're making an obvious effort to solve problems ion their own first.
All caps for subjects just pisses off the very people who you would get the best help from.
