incubator humidity...important?
    #8675064 - 07/24/08 03:13 AM (16 years, 5 months ago)

Seeing that Im new to this I was wondering if any pros out there know how important humidity is in your incubator?  I have a modified fridge that has a space heater in the bottom to keep it around 80 degrees.  The humidity is staying at about 30%25 ...too little?

I am not a pro yet !!  But I am pretty sure that during colonization humidity is not really a factor only temp..  Because usually when u are incubating the substrate is in a jar and therefore outside humidity can't get to it..  An incubator is mainly to hold a steady temp..  Humidity is very important while fruiting..  Then you want 95-100% humidity and 74-80 degrees..

Humidity is irrelevant during the colonization stage of your jars, and you may want to consider not "Incubating" anything.Unless you are somewhere where it is freezing you are better off at room temperature anyway.Just leave your shelves on a shelf or in a drawer or something and forget about them for a bit.High temps to slightly increase colonization speed but they also speed up bacterial growth as well and very ell may help any bacteria in your jars get a foothold before your mycelium.I vote ditch the incubator altogether, trust me they will colonize just fine without one,I had an incubator when I 1st started out and actually started having allot better results without it...... Take it apart and turn it into two mono-tubs :hehehe:
