Are you saying that your tester cakes went green also?

By "Tester cakes" you mean that you prepped them but did not inoculate them right? I guess what I'm trying to get at is that you made "Control cakes" so that you would know if it was your Sterile technique or your LC. EXAMPLE. I make 10 quart jars of grain, but only inoculate 9 jars. If my inoculated jars start to contaminate, but the one jar did not, then I know that I went wrong somewhere in the inoculation. If the one jar (not inoculated) goes bad, then I know that it was the sterilization prep procedures I went wrong on and not so much the inoculation.

i get what your saying.. u inoculated the cakes to make sure your LC was ok because u never really tried a LC before and wanted to make sure the LC was sterile. this way u wouldnt waste a bunch of grain if the LC was fucked up for some reason. umm.. if i am right about what u were trying to do i would inoculate another cake or something and then see what happens.. or try making another LC. I'v never tried one before. id rather just use G2G transfers for now but ill try the LC sometime here soon.

if it makes you feel better, I shot up some crystal clear LC (followed everything to the letter) Extra, extra, extra caution once I sterilized everything. Used a bit of syringe I had left from knocking up some grains to knock up this lc. My LC looked great. watched the spores go into the liquid. watched them sprout rhizomorphic puff balls around the dark spores. a week later, I was throwing out my grain jars...all green. shot up some more grain with this LC, thinking my preparation of the grains was the problem. As a test, I shot up BRF, Rye and WBS. All went green in 48 hrs. I think it was in the syringe. because all the other grain jars are beautiful.
any how...got more lc working. check my gallery.
H.H. Hope it helps.

Its really pretty hard to spot contamination in an Lc,I mean if its cloudy than its a no go for sure and every now and than something will look "Wrong" with it especially if you have had it sitting around for a while but aside from that there is no real way aside from testing it out so as not to waste a ton of spawn because sometimes even great looking lc isn't so great after all

Don't know if it helps, but I made 5 LC's at the same time, same step(s), etc., for all of them. All of them except my star-gazers produced marvelously. They did the same thing yours did, but more along the lines of black mold. It boggled me for sometime, thinking it was my prep for the bird seeds, but how do 35 other jars come out fine? I did it again, and sure enough they are the only strain to give me moldy jars.
I suppose the only way to tell for sure is make another LC, shoot it up with your master LC, and next tester jar use the new LC and if they mold it's most likely your LC, but we'll hope for your prep methods because I know how hard it is to toss viable LC's.
Alright, my rambling is ceased.
Goodluck!

Is the LC made from spores or Cloning? Cause if it's spore, even if you are super clean in making the LC, you can always introduce some contams from getting the print. If you clone it, I find it easier to control all the steps to the very final product. Never had any issues with LC from cloning.

1. Grain to Grain transers are far superior to LC's, do not make a step BACK by going from g2g to LC.
2. The LC is probably fine.
3. Quit re using syringes. I am going to say that you are, even without asking. 100% quit doing that.
4. When you make your testers, inoculate 3, and leave 1 uninoculated so you can disclude your BRF.
5. I don't understand how you people get conatminated LC's. It seems if you'd follow my LC tek, or some of the other teks that utilize vacuum, then you'd get a LoT less contaminated anythings.
I find contaminations to be less prevalent when you don't try so freaking hard.
