Rye looks very dried out after PC??

Maybe this isnt a big deal but I did the whole 24 hour soak and then simmered for an hour. Then pressure cooked the jars. After the pressure cook they look alot more dry then when they went in. Theres still moisture but is there enough?

i would say they should be ok unless you have done this many times before and this time something ust doesnt look right. if your still new at it then its probably just you worrying too much. im not sure but could you add more water then re-sterilize it?? anyone else??

dont do that. its sterile now, and not seeing water is a good thing. the grain is hydrated if you followed all the correct procedures for hydrating,
be happy they look dry

I made 7 large canning jars lol. Didnt want to wait on one jar to make more. My casing is going to be about 2.5x2.5 feet. I have had many successful flushes with the PF tek method but I want to step it up you know?

if you didn't dry your grain before PC'ing you might encounter some problems specifically metabolites and/or lack of colonization
not trying to get you down, it's just that the drier the better

that's what i was getting at, only i wanted to cover the possibility that he doesn't know what grain should look like before PCing

just a thought. you might wanna split that into several trays so all your eggs arent in one baskett so to speak. if you get a contam you still have other trays. but try to keep a deep substrate.

after you rinse>soak>simmer>rinse , you want the outside of the grain to dry off leaveing the moister content inside the grain. some people spread it out kinda thin over a towel to dry a bit. others just leave it in the strainer to dripdry. a couple members have devised a moisture test. the member "agar" uses a spoon to test. simply spoon up some grain then dump it. if alot sticks to the spoon then its too wet. only a little should stick. RodgerRabbit has a tissue paper test. scoop a spoonfull of grain onto the paper and let it sit for fifteen seconds. if when you dump it off there is a wet spot on the paper then it is too wet! hope this helps as i am good at repeting knowledge ive read.

to dry your grain, i advise getting yourself a window screen to put over your sink
regular strainers don't work very well because the outside dries leaving the inside too wet
and a towel makes a BIG mess lol
but yes, soak, rinse, simmer, rinse, rinse, rinse, dry
your grains should be completely dry on the outside while still being wet enough on the inside to smush easily between your fingers you just gotta gain an eye for it!
