SporeStore.com = BUNK
    #8670144 - 07/23/08 12:57 AM (16 years, 5 months ago)

So its been over a week and no mycellium growth of any type. But also no contamination. Sporestore sent me some sterile water syringes with dead spores.

Ive read lots of things about how bunk sporestore is by googling it. Sure wish i did that before ordering. Im about to order from Ralphsters cause hes got amazing deals.

Anyone else got bad experience comments about Sporestore?

What about Ralphster? he seems straight...

Ralphsters is a shroomery sponsor.

Any sponsors of the shroomery guarentee satisfaction.

I'd go with Sporeworks or Ralphsters. They're the only vendors I've purchased from.

I wish that everyone would ask me before they buy a syringe of water from The SporeStore.

I made the exact same mistake. I guess they figure what are we gonna do?

Ralphster's kicks ass!

Well since spore prints are legal, isn't what they are doing illegal? you could say you where buying them for microscopy and there was no spores.

We should sue them  :fishsmack:

Or go to their office and have a "talk" with them. Be "reasonable". Help them to be "better" people.  :kaboom:

I just slam them every time someone asks. I think that I'll go post an anti-sporestore thread in the sponsor forum. Be right back!

Thanks guys for the quick responses. You spoke, I listened. I just sent out a money order to Ralphsters. Hopefully he is as good as you guys say, i've got 7 syringes coming from him!

Anybody ever gotten a email response from sporestore?
I emailed them last week and still...nothing.  Lame.

I got some excellent spore samples from EarthsTongue.com but now it seems he has taken off his "Spores for Microscopy Use" section. Anyone know whats up with that?

Also, to those who ordered from sporestore - Was it just sterilized water that was in the syringe?  My cakes show no signs of contamination after 10 days, but definately no myc growth. It seemed that there were spores(or poo) in the syringe. I assumed they were just dead spores, sterilized accidentally with too hot water or something.....

And ONE more thing:
If those cakes that I inoculated with the bunk spores still show no signs of contamination after a few more days - I was thinking about freezing them until the Ralphsters order comes thru. This way I thought I'd be able to just re-pressure cook the jars, and still make use of the substrate when the order comes in....
You think that would work??

Anyway - Any suggestions or answers to these questions would help (and I'm sure it's not only me)

Post Up!

Hmm. I don't think I'd do that. It's just asking for trouble. PF jars are pretty easy to make. Maybe someone else will disagree.

Yeah, don't bother trying to re-use the substrate. The material is cheap enough, it's not worth the possibility of re-introducing contamination.

Ralph is good, quick, and reliable.

You made a sage choice this time around.

Also, check out the sponsor forum for any other leads if you find any other need you may need satisfying trough your expeditions in mycology.

Thanks again.

Any other input on re-using the jars? If they dont have any contaminants now and i re-boil them for like a hour and a half they should be sterilized right?    The reason is that I paid to have pre-made sterilized jars with a different substrate material that i normally dont have access to.

If i have to throw that out, Ill consider it as sporestore ripping me off twice 1- for the $15 syringes, and 2- for the 35 bucks it cost me for the premade jars.... grrrrr

????

The substrate is best when used fresh, you can re-use the jars. Just clean them like any other dishes, when you use new substrate and PC/Steam the jars they will be sufficiently safe on the inside.

It's not a good idea to leave substrate out, then re-use the jars. I've seen many people loose expansive BRF projects making this mistake. You may sterilize the material, but it looses it composure and air exchange by sitting and being exposed again to such conditions as a PC or Steam bath.

Just use a 1:2:1, (Brown Rice Flour:Fine-Grain Vermiculite: Water), solution. You CAN do this yourself. It won't cost you more than maybe ~10 dollars for enough material to make 20 jars and still have vermiculite left over for the verm layer and to roll after they are birthed.

Read some teks. Knowledge goes a long way!

In my short time on the shroomery forums, this is probably the 20th post saying sporestore is bunk. Shroomery sponsors are good for a reason; they get lots of business from here and it's because they are reliable. If they screw up an order, they always more than make up for it.

754th. Whoever runs this place has been making a LARGE amount of money off of people not familiar with the scene.

It is

This community does a good job of combating this, but unfortunately many don't do research, or are unable to, before being bit.

This probably belongs in the Vendor forum, I believe non-sponsors are still allowed to be bashed in fullness there. Still, maybe this will get more exposure here.

I'd like to personally vouch for Ralph and WTS, while the opportunity is available.

my fiend noc'd up some pf-tek jars with spores from the sporestore and besides the fact that after about a month they are almost done colonizing is there anything to worry bout? like non active mushies or something?

“Throughout human history, as our species has faced the frightening, terrorizing fact that we do not know who we are, or where we are going in this ocean of chaos, it has been the authorities, the political, the religious, the educational authorities who attempted to comfort us by giving us order, rules, regulations, informing, forming in our minds their view of reality. To think for yourself you must question authority and learn how to put yourself in a state of vulnerable, open-mindedness; chaotic, confused, vulnerability to inform yourself. Think for yourself. So any other thoughts about my pf-tek jar situation??
Here's the low-down:
I inoculated 12 jars with the bunk spores from sporestore.
No growth has occured, but no contam either.

I want to still inoculate the jars with new spores - if this will work:

1 Freeze all jars now.
2 Keep them frozen until the order from Ralphster comes in.
3 Take the jars out, unthaw over night, then pressure cook them.
4 'Noc up the jars with the new spore syringes.

Will that work to create sterility within the jars?

My thoughts are that the jars aren't contaminated now, but cooking them again will (maybe) garauntee that they are usable.

Right now, all jars look exactly the same as when they were first prepared. (no contam, no mycellium)

????HELP????
