well, maybe it's not a problem after all....when I got back today I found that the seeds had stopped germinating and that the mycelia from the pan's was growing rapidly. false alarm....I hope.

Hi,

I had once the same "problem", but with hemp seed. I actually had even autoclaved it in the press. cooker for 45 min. The interesting thing was, that the seedling didn't grow bigger or changed with time. So I think what happened was the following:

I soaked the mixture for 24 hours before sterilizing. That soaking-time was long enough for the hemp seeds to germinate. After they germinated I autoclaved them, without noticing the germiantion.
BTW the jars didn't contaminate.

Are your seedling growing? If yes, then you didn't sterilize correctly and you'll get probably Bacillus or even a mold contamination. If not, then don't worry to much you still have a chance of success.

they must have germinated before boiling because they definitely did not get any bigger since they have been in the jars and the mycelia are growing nicely. No signs of any mold or anything like that either. Things seem to be going ok but I am still worried about mold forming later. I guess I will just have to keep my fingers crossed. Thanks for your info.
