Hello
I have a question about some mushrooms. Here is a picture of the first flush.

Beautiful fruits.
Now here is the second flush

The caps are misshapen. I’m wondering way are they misshaped, what this is? Water damage? Bad food? Contam?
Thanks! Mc Face!

Well, I'm betting that you did a multispore inoculation. That is why you have wierdo mushrooms. Try cloning the best one and work from that.

I think it's second flush as well and perhaps your cakes are dehydrated (and/or combination of low humidity). Try dunking them. In my experience, if you experience a decent first flush from multispore(cubes), and all the variables remain the same, then subsequent flushes should remain stable. You will always experience a decline in size, yield, and aesthetics with each consecutive harvest; that's typical.

Could it be from digesting cardboard?
Well the FAE might have been a bit lower the second flush. I have an air pump hooked up giving fresh air, and i try to fan once a day. The second flush i might have missed a day or two.
I'm dunking the cakes now, see if it helps and the next flush looks better.

That is very interesting that there is a decline in aesthetics ( the look ) of the flushes.
Hey! Thanks for the rating. I'm just started playing with and learning about mycology, so I'm very careful and observant. Fungi are so amazing.
Thanks! McFace

Dunking them is definately a good idea, but you may want to increase the amount of water that you are using when you do your FAE.
On my first-ever attempt of producing psychodelic shrooms (which happened to be the Equador strain) I was worried about using too much water when it turned out it was the other way around. The first flush was excellent, many fruits at 15cm or more. After I harvested those, it went completely uphill. The new boomers were extremely small, many of which turned to aborts; quickly. I consulted a friend and he too suggested dunking it and increasing the water supply. After picking the rest of the aborts (after they finished drying, I had a whole 3g of aborts.. sad, considering what they could have became) I cold-water dunked them, and increased the amount of water-spray by about 300%. A week later, the most magnificent boomer unveiled that was a colossal 38cm tall and weighed 7.6g dried.
In short, dont worry about using too much water.. worry about using not enough.
