Accumulated errors feedback
    #8662755 - 07/21/08 11:28 AM (15 years, 9 months ago)

This seems like the most suitable place to post this.  So

I've come across a bunch of different errors while posting here that might be useful for the webmasters to know.

#1.  Read only privilege error while attempting to make a post.

#2.  Must specify topic error (when topic is present) while attempting to make a post.

#3.  A bunch of php code and nonsense inserted into the middle of my sentences, and topic titles without any apparent pattern.

#4.  Sentences and words deleted and rearanged from my original post.  When i type up my post, then press continue to post it, it gets changed.  Not before.

#5.  Replys being sent to their own topic instead of attached to the original one.  Sometimes they can be read, sometimes they are read only.

I can take screen shots if my explanations are unclear.  I'll add additimmon errors, so don't crucify me if they are.  They might be errors unique to me, due to whatever my computer wants to do.. but i'm not sure of that either.

Also, i'm not complaining or asking them to be fixed.  Just informing you guys if you didn't know they took place.

**edit**

While posting this message, error #3 happened.  I can't post a screenshot after all, because i have damaged RAM and when i try to upload the images they are always really wacked out.

**edit 2**

While posting my first edit, error #1 happened.

The most mind blowing error just happened to me.

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/eslion

got inserted into one of my posts.  I wasn't at dictionary.com.  Eslion isn't even a word.  And its creepin me out.

Heh... well these are all pretty serious problems that I'd want to fix, but if you can provide a little more information it would be really helpful. It looks like you're using Firefox 2, is that correct? None of these are known issues with that browser and it's what 20% of our visitors use but here are general tips to help narrow down the nature of the problem.

First do you have any sort of internet privacy software installed? Anything from Norton, ZoneAlarm, etc? Try disabling that temporarily and see if it helps. Also try running Firefox in safe mode (firefox.exe -safe-mode), and try with another browser like Opera or IE and see if the problem persists. If you aren't checking the "remember box" box when you log in, try doing so. Bring up the error console by pressing Ctrl-Shift-J, click the 'Errors' button, and see if any errors are logged when the problems occur.

Now on to the individual issues:

#1: See above, especially try checking the "remember me" box, disable any internet secure software, ensure the privacy settings in the browser permit us to set cookies (they should by default).

#2: Do you notice any pattern to subject lines which give this error? Eg. starting with a non-alphanumeric character, being under a certain length, etc? Also are you sure it's not an message about 'no subcategory selected'? Because that happens to me sometimes but it's a different error.

#3: Please paste an example of this nonsense code so I can see what you're talking about.

#4: Please give an link to a post where this happened.

#5: Again please give a link to a post where this happened.

I'll definitely look into this, sorry I don't have any quick answers for you.

Yeah.

Yeah.  Will do.

Quote:

I do use the remember me box, and have for a while.

There are about 50 or more logged errors.  Every one of them from the shroomery.

Would you like me to copy and paste them?  Perhaps in a PM, as there are quite a few..

No patterns so far, and i haven't encountered a "no subcategory" error.

Heres one, from the subject title of one of my posts in this thread.

Accumula non-alphanumeric chisposition: form-data; name="hour"

----ted errors feedback 973drm-data; name="no_related" 1

Everything after Accumulated errors feedback was put there mysteriously.

heres another in the topic title.

#4: Please give an link to a post where this happened.

I usually edit the errors out, so i'll have post them as they happen.

Quote:

#5: Again please give a link to a post where this happened.

I usually delete the stray posts, so i'll have to post them as they happen too.

I know for a fact that what i just typed all makes sense, so if you see any gaps in my sentences or random jibberish, then it was an error.

Also, i've encountered 3/6 of the errors using firefox 3 on my macbook.  Which gives me good reason to think it's not my computers, because they are different browsers and different operating systems.

That's extraordinarily strange... are these all happening with the same internet connection, or have you had them occur with multiple different connections?

I was just thinking..

It might have something to do with firefox addons.  I have a couple.

Hmm... yeah that's why I mentioned running Firefox in safe mode, if it's an extension which is causing the problem then that would fix it, otherwise it would be an indication to look elsewhere. Did you ever try that? ("firefox.exe -safe-mode" that is)

I hate to admit it but I'm pretty stumped on this issue. Anyone else feel free to chime in with your suggestions. I'm thinking it's not on our end, simply because we have a lot of Firefox 2 users and this is the first I've heard of these problems. But that's weird it would affect this site and no others...

Try using safari on the mac and see if the problem persists or not.  If it does, then there is something hosed on your network, such as a hardware firewall or network monitor... if the problem goes away, then it is something with firefox (most likely).  Since it occurs on multiple platforms, then probably an extension (assuming you ruled out the network).

Do you have a router? It could be overheating/damaged. It might not be on your end, but it seems more likely.

hmmm tricky situation

it even happened in this thread:
"Re: Accumulated errors feedback 973drm-data; name="no_related" 1"
google didn't show any results for code like that

Some program might be adding code to every post request, otherwise I don't see how it could be so consistent.
I'm stumped, I'd guess somewhere your internet packets are being messed with. No idea how to trace it to the problem though

edit: of course while it could be the shroomery, I'd expect others to have the problems as well which I don't really see
