New Drying Idea!
#8658313 - 07/20/08 10:27 AM (16 years, 5 months ago) |

Hey i was thinking about how to dry my mushrooms the other day and i came up with an idea. Im going to go to home depot and get some piece of ply wood and 3 drying racks. By drying rack i mean a like something like a window screen. i havent determined what i want to use for the rack but i will post more on that later. But i decided that i would put two fans and use them as the bottom and the top of the box. Then use plywood around the rest so that the box is conceled. Also i would put something so that the racks can sit on. I will post more about this idea later when i actually do it, but i thought that i would post the idea to see what people would think.

i wouldnt use them as the bottom and top, that would strain both motors as they tried to spin against eachothers current.
try 1 fan on the bottom, or two if you want. this idea works and has been covered in a few threads.

I would build a box the shape of a fan and then have horizontal trays on that when the box is lying on its side. This way you do not need to build something for the box fan on the bottom to rest on.

my friend's dehydrator was getting hotter than he wanted. this was his solution. it is sitting on a "cool operator" fan. it has it's own base, so you can pivot it to go straight up like this.
i would recommend one of these fans, with or without a dehydrator.

Not a very new idea. Home made ideas like these always spring up. Nice idea though!

what about if i put the two fans on either side instead of on top and bottom, using them as walls to the box. then making racks to lay the mushrooms on attached to the plywood sides. This would make a more even drying of the mushrooms.

thats pretty much how I made my first one.. plywood and screens.. if you are using the fans, just put them on one side, and cut some holes in the other.. you want the air to come in, take moisture, and get the fuck outta there.. haha.. you will just have to move them around once per day, though, so they dry evenly..
what kind of fans are you going to use?

i dont know what kinds of fans i wanted to use yet. i was just was posting this so i can some input to make the best one i possible can...but do you think its still a bad idea with two fans if i have one blowing in and one blowing out. Also what kind of fans would work the best? Thanks again to everone who posted!

i would seriously look into one of the cool operator fans i mentioned, or something similar. it pivots on it's base to point straight in the air if you want. you can pretty much point it in the air and set it up like a food dehydrator, in fact, my friend puts his dehydrator racks on it. to do this with a box fan you have to put it on books or something.
but yeah, a fan blowing in and another blowing out of whatever setup would be fine, but probably wouldn't help alot.

I think that im going to go with two box fans one blowing in and another blowing out. Im going to use the box fans as the sides of the drying box im building.

NESCO SNACKMASTER
fucking buy one, they don't hurt the shrooms, and dry them in like 4 hours.
jesus im so tired of people sayin dehydrators are BAD for drying shrooms.
I've been using one for years, 3 of them actually, and NOT ONE PERSON has complained.

However... may I suggest a dehydrator, just an idea.

Would that be the "years" (744 days ago/7-10-06), when you were a TiT half pint noob?
Is that like the "thousands upon thousands" of poo bags you've done in those same "years"?

what the fuck are you talking about..
"3 of them" as in i use 3 snackmaster's with 6 trays each.
i still use a tub in tub incubator for grains, but my house stays around 70*F so i have to incubate or they'd never colonize, i've tested this so yes, i have to use a TiT..
and yes, i've done thousands of poo bags in the past 3-4 years, however, a LONG TIMe AGO, when i was a "noob" I only did 2 runs of half pints, then wised up, and moved to grains and spawnign said poo bags...
i don't see that you have a gallery, you still have half pint newb all over you? according to your sig you've wasted 90% of your life getting a quarter oz dry off a cake.
grow something then quote people and be asinine. i've grown and dried your body weight twenty times over this year already.
-5 for the hat.

Dude, anyone can click on your name and read your very first postings here and see that 744 days ago you were a straight up TiT half pint noob.
Hell I was here, and I remember you. What a joke.
As far as I go, what d'ya wanna' know? :
5 small grows in a little less than 3 yrs. Only 3 of the grows produced anything. 4 were Cubes. One was Sclerotia. The first grow was the only one I took pics of, and not past the 1st flush of the poo trays. The rest of the 1st grow and 2 other successes and two other failures were not recorded. That's my creds, at least I'm not claiming the BS you are.
Giving me a bad rating for exposing your lies about how "experienced" you are? I just wish that you could do it more than once until it made you feel better. Love ya' bro.
Edit: Let me put it this way, you may very well be more experienced in growing than I. It wouldn't be a difficult accomplishment. That I can believe, but to think that you have produced 1000's upon 1000's of poo bag in 744 days is a little hard for me to digest. Especially when you claim it has been 3-4yrs.

i've only been posting on shroomery under this name for 2 years, not the only username i've ever had.
you are an asshat.
350 invitro bags per month times 24 months, is a lot of invitro bags, into the thousands.
i can really give a shit less what you think, or what you say.
but you've gone out of your way to be the first person to call names and flame. I can easily click on your name and your first posts, and see where you were at.
GO back to otd,
i've had the past 8 months of growing undocumented, and i'll be damned if i go on here and document every grow i do. You are an idiot for thinking you know everything about me. why would i go out of my way to post every felony i commit on some shitty website?
i can tell you this, my original point is, use a fucking dehydrator, take advice from someone that does know what they're talking about, and not some asshat that's going to go back and read hundreds of posts to tell you, "2 years a go you had a TiT full of half pints"
so the fuck what? who cares? If you haven't noticed i've deleted several grow logs, and all of my picutres. That's how much i care about all of you guys seeing what i do.
fucktard.

Your right. Today after 3 years you are the second guy ever who rated me with less than 5 shrooms. I'm all torn up about that. Drats!
We all can see how long you've been posting here. The point I've made is that we can also READ your 1st, 2nd, 3rd. 4th, posts etc... and see that you were a total noob. You obviously had no growing experience before you showed up here. That's ok neither did I.

It wasn't much, but do your research next time that would be about a 4 oz's dry on first flush of first grow.

Mind Euphoria, sorry for jacking your thread but it's not like you can't do a search on drying and find all this stuff out. _______ _______
Jeets let's end all this.
http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/5836634#5836634
The link above is your first grow. In it everyone can read how much you screwed up your first grow. They can also read that you were asking total noob advice and using half pints and admit that you had yet to try quarts or mycobags.
Then they can see how you got your very first fruit on 8/7/06, less than two years ago. They can decide for themselves if you have been doing thousands upon thousands of mycobags, and other grows for the last 3-4 yrs. Hows that?
And if you really didn't care what we thought jeets, you wouldn't be bragging to us all about stuff you obviously never did.
