July 20th Hunt
    #8658142 - 07/20/08 09:28 AM (15 years, 6 months ago)

EDIT : I'm going to just make another thread for Bluefoot pics/info only so if you have comments, post them in that thread. Unfortunately, they haven't grown much since yesterday but it is supposed to rain today and expect a thread this week.

Pluteus Salicinus - The bluing was exaggerated because of lack of flash.

Mycena Sp.?

Right to the left of this in the woods is my hunting spot for Pluteus, there are morels here in the spring too.

Lots of interesting stuff,

The mycena?, take a spore print, some mycena have viscid caps, but I think it's unusual for a temperate climate.

I've found ovoids in habitat similar to your hunting spot.

Bluefoot? cool looking pins.

Your unknown looks like a Crepidotus species.

Wow, I just went back out and picked a suspect bluefoot, and saw a very small trace of blue at the base of the stem.

I have no idea what these are, enjoy the pics though.

Those are called monotropa uniflora. They are plants, not fungi. Although they get their food like fungi. That is why they are translucent, because they have no chlorophyll in their cells for photosynthesis.

Will do, tomorrow, they are very young still. But from the pic, you can see the fibrils leading down the stem and the white stems (which will turn to a brown as they age), correct stature, substrate, location (MI). As soon as I can get a spore print off of one I will.

Check the spore print color and see if they have a farinaceous taste.

The common name "Blue Foot" can refer to Psilocybe caerulipes , Psilocybe ovoideocystidiata and even Lepista nuda , a non-active edible mushroom.

http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/6772784

Pluteus salicinus doesn't have a common name.

Great find!  Again!

^^ I mean Bluefoot for Psilocybe caerulipes, which I believe I have found in the 4th pic.

I see that now that you pointed it out.  I agree with Alan, check the spore print and the odor.

You have keen eyes.

Could you post a picture of this mushroom so that it shows the color as the first one you posted?  Also, could you take some measurements?

I'm not sure you are finding Pluteus salicinus.  It might be another active Pluteus instead.

As i recall, were both in Michigan. what sort of habitat did you find those in? i mean woods, obviously, but deciduous, coniferous, in a clearing, etc. ? i live right on a nature preserve, but the mosquitoes are too bad to go walking this year. i figured id look more around fall for Gyms or Blue-foots

I'll have a write-out for all that stuff when I post the thread, which will unfortunately be someday this week, they haven't grown much but it is supposed to rain today.

I think you may be right Hongos about that being a different pluteus, I may consider sending the spores to someone if they can do some microscopy.
