They wont grow on wood chips...its possible i guess to find em under wood chips...but typically..for (wood) loving weill..they prefer pine needles..there are several out there in the woods that are very similar in appearance...until you really seem them in person..a good indication is to smell them..very unique..if they smell like crayons, acidic cucumbers,etc...then look for very distinct bluing....then do a spore print..should be purple

So, Kept Searching and found some goodies. Thee were found in cherokee not to far out of fulton. We got some pretty nice close caps. This spot is putting out some good variety. I can hardly wait to see what the fal season does for this spot.

Ummmm, thats some misinformation right here, Ive found numerous amounts fruiting off woodchips, and cedar chips, even a few grown directly from pine cones. Just because all you search is fescue/bermuda doesnt mean they grow off nothing but grass and pinestraw.

Like Red Crayon said, this is not entirely true, the largest patch I have ever seen was a Woodland patch. The Weilii were literally fruiting off wood chips, sweet-gum balls, even Pine-cones! IMO all Weilii are wood loving mushrooms, even when fruiting in grass; there is mulch, red clay, and other substrates originating from wood under the grass. I will try to dig up some old pictures of them growing on wood chips.

Not directly off wood of course, but from seriously broken down wood. Phish told me one time of how he found these weilii growing in a strange pattern on bermuda grass, dug them up and it was growing off a buried stick.

Here's some pictures of them growing off of cedar chips that were placed there about a year prior to fruiting (so the chips were beginning to decay). Mycelium was purposely placed there and flushed within 3-4 months afterwards. The first picture you can clearly see primordia as the mushroom starts to take shape. The last picture is just a huge cluster found growing off of wood chips at another location.

Whatever, I dont have tons of pictures to show, but the cedar chips were completely colonized with mycelium.
If i was to fruit weilii artificially, It wouldnt be colonized on a patch of dirt or pinestraw, it would take sawdust or potato dextrose, some type of wood based substrate.
Its not like these are separate species growing from different substrates, what grows off pinestraw, or fescue, or woochips is the same weilii. Im going to go out looking in a couple hours and bring back more pictures.
Good luck hunting in the grass...

Found sum awesome ones today but since my cameras memory card is full i only took a few pics. Since i dont have much room left im only posting this one.
I find ones shaped like this all the time and was wondering if it were cloned if the fruits grown from the clone would be the same. The spot i picked this one in always produces ones like this thats why i think it might be possible. I know nothing about growing and am not interested in doing so but im just curious about what would happen if cloned.

Congratulations on the new spot . Now that you have some pics of your own you won't have to use Dickenz pic for your avatar anymore;)

Fescue patch has backed off quite a bit lately (which is weird b/c everyone elses patches seem to be going off), but did manage to cough up this nice cluster.

Thats an awesome cluster, very pretty colors. Every patch is different, dont think just because someone elses patch is fruiting that yours will to. Mine will take a week or two break sometimes then will start producing again for a 3-4 weeks then stop for 1-2 weeks. This cycle is constant with any mushroom, you harvest the fruits then the myc recovers from being disturbed then produces more when its healthy enough to. Its going to rain for a few days here soon so just keep checking, and again that cluster is awesome you should eat that fresh

Like a barrel chested strongman I suspended disbelief I held it high over my head though all the weight was staggering But legs buckled and muscles burned, in came gravity I dropped it all, faced what I'd been avoiding

a swingset......found in a residential fescue lawn around 4 years old. My wife thinks i'm too old for this kind of thing so she likes to fuck with me. This patch is actually in the neighbor's backyard and she saw me out there with the flashlight at midnight and yelled out the window "hey, get out of my yard!" Needless to say, it scared the shit out of me before I realized it was her.

Are you going to tell her what you were doing? Just tell her your interested in science, and you love plants, fungi, animals, etc. That would make me so paranoid to have someone next door to me bust me picking actives out behind THERE house
