new salvia how does it look?
    #8651406 - 07/18/08 02:34 PM (15 years, 7 months ago)

its neverr been under a humidity tent under my care. it was acclimated before i baught it and it just arrived today. so far it has not wilted once. it is in organic potting soil and in a terra cotta pot. so far im acclimating it to more sunlight but for now im going to keep it on a screened north facing window. is it a good think that it hsent showed any wilting and no need for a humidity tent? it looks like this one is gunna make it very easily. i only misted it once too, andi dont plan on doing it agian as ive heard is makes your leaves brown.

apart from being a bit small it looks ok to me...
obviously doesn't need a humidity chamber if it hasnt wilted...
let that soil dry out some before you water it again, shouldn't take long in a clay pot :yesnod:

oh i know im going to wait for it to ask for water before i water it. i only put about a cup of water in it. im useing a clay pot to try and dodge the risk of root rot.

Is that a Luna strain Salvia? I notice the serrated edges or maybe thats from direct sun. Direct sun will kill your salvia plant. That sure is a tiny plant. By the way you don't want to acclimate it to sunlight at all. You want to keep it in shady locations at all times. it looks like your plant is getting cooked. Salvia hates the sun. You need to keep it away at all costs. Mine may get a touch of morning sun but mostly shade at all times.

dude....did you not read...its on a north facing window for one and two its got a screen that protects it from 60% of the sunlight. northfacing is already pure shade....plus the screen...its not the plant thats yellow it the fact that i took the pic after i misted it and i had flsh on. thats for the help guys but ask questions before you assume id harm this poor plant.

well ii just noiced it has gotten considerably darker edges on the leaves, now, im not so concerned about this as i expect these leaves to die anyway. the bad thing is the stem is beginning to do the same thing, this is what im worried about. its only on the 4 edges on the stem . heres a pic:

where did you get that cutting from anyway? dont tell us exactly, but was it from a vendor or a trade?

anyhow it is a bit puny and if i had payed good money for a salvia cutting i would expect that it is bigger and in better condition than yours is when i recieved it...

it's condition has deteriorated slightly, as far as i can tell you are not doing anything wrong...

so just cross your fingers and hope for the best...

My mate got a salvia cutting the other day from an online source, it was much the same. Yellow and sad as f*ck looking, within about 3-4 days under a 400w hps with his other 'herbs' it looked alot better.

As long as cuttings dont encounter testing conditions they usually do just fine. My mum is always doing cuttings of garden plants, most of the time it looks like she is rotting a bunch of sticks in a tray of pumice. Lol but they all seem to grow into happy healthy plants.

Do you know what strain it is? The serrated edges I've read could mean Luna strain. I havn't seen many of those going around. Mostly just Blosser and Wasson and Hoffman.

you should put a gallon ziplock bag over it with a couple of chop sticks on the side of the pot to keep the plant from losing anymore leaf ... good luck

it just seems to be getting worse every hour. i already know the problem, its drying out. i cant mist it that wont help it will just cause more problems and if i use a tent I'm so fucking limited to keeping the plant small, which i don't want. or i have the option of acclimatization witch contrary to popular opinion it hard as hell and Ive fucked that up a number of times. i guess I'm just never gonna successfully grow salvia.:bitch:

Tent it now, once it has an established root system there will be no need for a tent..

Solved.

Actually there is a difference in each strain. Each different strain seems to have their own little quirks and originalities in how they grow. I've noticed that My blossers grow much slower than my Wasson and Hoffman. It's genetics. Each strain was originated from a single seed grown plant through cuttings and has inherited the characteristics of that original seedling. Their isn't really a potency difference, but there is a difference in how they look and develop. Thats why each new seedling is given a new name so as to tell the difference from the others because it's clones will have the same characteristics as it's mother.

Here's a list of some of the known strains going around:

Blosser” (Palatable) strain
“Cerro Quemado” strain
La Fuerza
Hofmann & Wasson” strain
Julieta” strain
Luna” strain
Owens” strain
Paradox” strain
Resilience” strain

If you look them up they all seem to have their own traits unique from each other.

I'll take that as you don't know what strain. Just curious because yours had the serrated edges that is known from the Luna strain. It's a lesser circulated variety from the regulars which are blosser and Wasson and Hoffman. I'm currently attempting to gather cuttings from each strain and study more about their differences.

It could be nitrogen or iron deficiency.  Plants leaves will turn yellow because a lacks of it.

i think he made it clear that is wasent yellowing terra. and yes yellowing could be caused by that but it could also be cause by alot of other things too.
