green mold
    #865023 - 09/05/02 08:59 AM (14 years, 3 months ago)

This is the second time this has happened to me. I do the pf tek everything looks fine, healthy looking jars, clean room... i take the cakes and crumble into layers with a potting soil/verm/organic compost mixture and get a really healthy first flush... then as the shrooms mature in the first flush I start to see little patches of green surrounded by white. YUCK. I get no more flushes after this. Last time I tried a couple of casing containers with just straight verm to see what would happen like maybe it was the compost... or moisture. But it happened there. So I guess I'm wondering if this has happened to anyone, or at what step is the contams getting in? Anyway thanks...

Did you sterilize or pasturize your casing material? On my last casings I ran out of sterilized casing material and tried straight verm on one casing. It turned green by the middle of the first flush but the other casings were fine.
I lost two more to the green after the second flush but that may have been because they had been within the same terrerium as the first bad one.

All pastureized... So I guess the question now is how do I stop it from happening again? The straight vermiculite system has worked in the past but the shroomies are really small when I do that. There is a way to avoid these contams but I'm trying to figure out at what step i'm doing something wrong.
