First Grow, First Post, First Cakes in the Dunk

Greetings Shroomery. Ive been hangin out around this site for some time now. Ive learned quite a bit from all of you guys. Read alot of teks, reviewed old posts from recognized members, and of course the search function. Ive become quite skilled in its operation.;)But now on to my adventure in mycology. I decided on running two grows simultaneously. PF-Tek and WBS Bulk Spawn. I wanted to watch them side by side and compare, although my method is fundamentally flawed in the fact Im using two different strains. But a cubes a cube right? My PF jars have all reached 100%25 this week. In fact, three are in the dunk as we speak. Its amazing how much they shrank! I had an image of a perfect cylinder, how surprised was I. I have 4 more cakes approaching dunk time, they should all be birthed by Tuesday. Now for my WBS. I have appox. 2 pints ready to mixed with bulk sub. I know this is not much spawn, but Im takin it easy my first few grows. I plan on spawning to hpoo/coir/coffee/gyp, casing with 50/50. FC is a standard shotgun w/ perlite, nothin special. I cant wait to see these little guys pin and fruit. Also I went and got a CFL rated at 6500. So in closing, the grow is reaching the critical stage, and I appreciate your help in guiding me through this last hurdle. -Aircooled

You'll get loads of support here, welcome to the shroomery! i do have one question though; if you're casing why use a shotgun FC? i thought that was for cakes and trays, id use a monotub if you intend on casing it in the tub, saying that i do use my shotgun for my cased trays and it's fine

I'm using a shotgun for my cased trays this go round simply b/c i wont have enough spawned bulk sub to fill a mono. I will only have enuf to fill two small trays to a depth of 3in. After I start learning what the hell I'm actually doing I'll step up to larger spawn jars.

2 pints of swawn could easily knock up 5-10 quarts of substrate and be in a 10:1 or 20:1 ratio depending on wether you go with 5 or 10 qts of bulk. Id recommend 10 myself as a block of coir is already about that much alone once hydrated, your colonization times wont be a week, but it would still happen fast enough to make you a very happy man in the end. if you use a 56qt monotub you will have a 5-7" substrate depth with 10 qts of bulk in the bottom... 5"substrate depth= Monster mushrooms Once you finish up your experiment here you will pass on the PF tek and move to bulk in monotubs. Its faster, cheaper and provides WAY larger yields.

IMO it happens alot faster than you think. I can go from spores to spores in 21 days and I have heard of 17-18
