Probably won't be any more resistant to bacterial contamination than bran, but it will probably work just as well.

Which flakes you talking about, there is corn flakes with so much sugar on them + colors inside and preservants... thats not good for mushrooms!

But if you talking about hte natural cornflakes you buy in health stores with 0% sugars and preservants that would work

Btw(between) try blood meal ^^

An interesting idea!

I also think it is best to use those without any preservatives.

Please keep us posted with your experimental results!

do you mean corn flakes as in

or like ground up corn or something?

I'd use Cherrios or some nasty ass Wheat Bran cereal over Corn Flakes unless it was shit from a health food store. If on the topic of cereal I suspect organic/healthy pasta's would make a good additive instead of corn flakes also.

Theres a few people who have grown PF tek style pasta cakes with really good results.

Professional growers in areas where sawdust is not available use ground corn cobs.  They are sold bulk in bags already ground.  Corn meal and other additives can be gotten at the local feed store.

I realize that.  But I still really don't see the appeal of using corn flakes.  You can get bulk cornmeal/bran/whatever for a lot cheaper than a box of corn flakes, and it would probably work better without needing to be crushed up or whatever.

But to each their own, have fun hope it works for ya.

i'm wondering if corn flakes get less endospores than bran, or no endospores at all

I think someone said they used Cherrios and steam sterilized.

I'd be willing to bet no endospores.
