don't do it... I had this "bright idea" last casing... fucking cobweb mold seems to LOVE those friggin seeds. It doesn't produce enough O2 to affect anything. Sounded good at first, wound up being a big failure.

I'd recomend rye grass seed instead to get better germination. Better germination will mean less contamination. Just grab a handfull of seeds from a busted open bag next time you're at walmart or hd or lowe's or something.------------------ -From a registered Mad Scientist "From a certain point of view" -Jedi Master Obiwan Kenobi (also a Mad Scientist tm) VisitThe Donkey!-just behave

PM me with any cultivation questions.
I just looked at my profile and realized I had a website at one point in time on geocities, it's not there anymore and I have no idea what I had on it. Anybody remember my website from several years aga? PM if so please.

Thanks for the tips on contam's, I knew bagged BS was riddled with spores, I could see a problem if you shook a handful of the mixture over a tank. My pot-induced image of this tank had seed already growing in a writhing mass before cakes [and casings, I would think] were introduced. The other cool thing [in my dream] was that cakes could now be placed directly in the tank on the 'grass' without the lower class getting waterlogged. And surely all these tiny plants will increase the humidity if for no metabolic reason, then the increased surface area inside the tank.I guess another question is how much peroxide germinating seeds can tolerate...maybe a timed peroxide pre-soak will be beneficial.

A short 5 minute soak should be more than enough to kill most spores and short enough to leave the seeds unaffected. Actually, you should soak them in a cup of H2O2 and then just dump the whole mix into the terrarium (with the light on). The light will break the H2O2 down into water and O2 in a short while.

one BIG problem with plants: they produce more carbonic acid and in many cases CO2 than they remove... and use mroe O2 than they produce..(in a whole day that is, dark and light cycles).. if you want O2 production, go with green alge (shit im an idiot, i forgot how to spell that..or did i.. damnit) anyway, most of the oxygen on the planet is from alge (is it algae.. shit man this is annoying).. although during the day they are good, at night they are bad.. just something ot think about

I hadn't thought about plants consuming more oxygen than they produce. If a plant is in a closed system and 'grows' it should raise O2 levels overall, wouldn't it? Plants respire a lot, but i figured the overall reaction would favor [o2] increase. Algae would be very interesting; maybe a sheet of material with algae spread over its entirety and folded repeatedly like a fan and dipped into the lower perlite level so it wicked water and was always wet. . .shit, I'll just put together the damn humidifier tubing.

Plants only consume CO2 and release O2 during Photosynthesis. So long as you keep you plants illumintated 24*7, and the plant species you choose enjoys that, you shoyld have good results ------------------ /Gadget "In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice.
