Cleanliness, a subject sometimes discussed here. Firstly it isn't rotten ..yet, almost. Secondly I do not to wash shrooms, it does something to them that's not good, if anything could probably embed stuff in the gills. A gentle wipe with a clean cloth or paper towel does the job.

i don't like the term wash, when it comes to mushroom cleaning. idk it seems to conotate soaking and scrubing it to me. Rinse, never "wash".

word it looks a little waterlogged, washing off a waterlogged cube will only add more water to it...
Then you gotta eat a soggy cube, or you gotta dry it really fast

i think you should pick it soon, ive heard they lose potentcy when they break veil. but then again i dont hunt cubes so idk.

You may be right, but it's interesting to see em grow. At least i won't worry some by eating dirty rotten shrooms, looks nice and clean I could graze it no hands!;)

Any mushroom is more potent when the caps are closed, so pick it dude. That would be funny farmer88 to see you graze it no hands...imagine if somebody saw you doing that

Weilii I dunno. You see there have been other myths fall by the wayside, for example the drying temperature issue. It didn't make sense recommending the temp not exceed 40 degrees or the potency would be affected. I'd boiled them, over heated them accidentally (60 degrees) and no effect on potency I could detect. The open or closed cap issue is still open from my point of view. Why would the active ingredient reduce just because the cap is open? Doesn't seem to for me.
Perhaps it is the illusion of size.
Anyway do you want to see this one age and rot away? Or maybe I should just you tube a short "grazing off the pat".

I believe tests were done on potency but im not sure if i ever saw the actual documentation.
The idea is, pins and unopened caps have more actives in it gram per gram...

Yes well I don't doubt that that could be the case. So what will be more value, a 10 gram shroom with say .5 mgs/gram (5 mgs) or a 20 gram shroom with .4mgs/gram? (8 mgs) mmmmmm. Damn the caps open on the big one! Anyway that's my unsubstantiated case.

345.2 degrees Fahrenheit. water boils at 100C/212F so mushrooms can withstand the heat just fine, however if you powder your mushrooms and try to boil them plenty/most of the mushroom powder will float against the bottom or sides where the heat is higher and destroy potency (at least this has been the case with me). When i make tea i usually pour boiling water over the mushroom powder and stir for 15-30 minutes then strain.
It seems this heat myth is being cleared up now days... But most people coming into the hobby think heat fucks up your mushrooms based on all the info on the boards. (as did i)

A new tek for making Mushroom honey, but instead of just putting in mushroom powder you extract the mushrooms like a tea (by simmering/boiling down) then mix with honey. Its said to reduce your potency to by about 80%

Maybe the pin/mature mushroom potency thing is in one of paul stamets's books or publishings... ill see if its in any of his books :/

I think it is, imp. I once ate 70 grams fresh weight of pins. It isn't an experience I would like to repeat, ever.
