Need more info to better help ya out bro, but for what I can think of, it looks okay for a monotub-stylee.
I see that one of those holes is pretty far down, I think it will be okay, but if you get the pretty little pinset I know you want, you will have fruits VERY near that hole. I dont' know if it means anything, just think about it in the future. Usually , I put any holes up above my fruiting area. But to each his own.
Other than that, clean job, I see you are ready to fruit something!

it seems like too much bird seed for the straw... however it would colonize quicker. If you use more straw youll get more product, butittle take longer to colonize and be more prone to contamination. basically its a horse a piece. ya kno? oh yea... the more you chop the straw up the quicker it colonizes. idk if u know that or not

Yeah, with that small amount of straw, and 5qts wbs, you are going to not have but about 3 inches on that tub. Which is below the air port, but......
I woud just spawn that WBS to a tray, then place the tray in the monotub after it re-colonizes. This way, you could put the lid on the tray and add a casing layer.
If you aren't going to go all out and add at least 1:1 spawn/bulk, then just do all spawn for the sake of contams. I know that's crazy, but really why risk you healthy myc for just a little bit more bulk?
and I would chop that straw a little bit more, just a little.

well I did it up, we'll see what happens, it seems like the best way to learn about this shit is trial and error next time I will be a lot better prepared now that I know what im dealing with and have learned from this experience.... I layered the straw with that 5 pints and it is pretty thin prolly only about 1.5" and it should be closer to 3" but hey now I know we'll see what happens ill keep ya posted =)

i would've put more holes. at least four. i've found that the more fresh air exchange i get, the better the pinset. do you plan on opening and fanning the tub?

at least 4 more holes? its got 6 now, when I opened it to take this pic it was very hot and humid inside, I guess I will have to open it very briefly maybe once a day for air exchange, I noticed pushing in on the sides of the tote also exchanges the air a little
heres what it looks like today, it seems just a bit whiter than yesterday, the spawn was by no means covered completley on the top by straw yesterday when I put it together....

next time I will definatley have a lot more straw to use this was indeed not enough....

I pretty sure that you have enough holes and you shouldn't be opening the tub on a daily basis.I wouldent do anything until a regular chimes in.

Yeah, I see that you have plastic in the bottom to block light, thats good. You should have covered over the top of your straw with some also untill it colonized. It doesn't need as much FAE untill it's colonized and ready to pin.
Monotubs do not need THAT much FAE, but they need it. I think your holes are okay, but they seemed pretty filled with polyfil, which could prevent their function. I would wait untill you get your first flush before changing anything else. Just put it away and leave it alone, the more you look at uncolonized sub, the more likely for contams. Just put it away for at least 6 more days. No need for misting/fanning at this point.

ok cool thanks, yeah i tried to stuff a pretty good amount of polyfill in there, and I did use the spawn ratio calculator its awesome! i just didnt have enough straw =/ and yes its scotch tape I know its not gonna hold in the moisture =/
so i should wiat till its colonized then thinly case with 50/50+ right?
thanks again!

im not worried about yor fae now while colonizing. you dont need it. but when you start to fruit, its essential to proper pin development.

what about RH
with that polyfil you wont lose much humidity. i've heard its better to fit the polyfil loosely for better air exchange. not saying his is too tight, i cant tell. just saying what i've heard from some experienced growers

pretty sure? why r u chiming in if your not a regular. anyways , you dont need to do it the way i say. i'm just suggesting some very basic procedures on getting the most out of your project. no, you dont have to open them everyday, but why not. neglect works but aint nothin wrong wit a lil TLC. thats why i asked if you have a fan going in that same room. if you dont, your going to need to fan and mist. i may not have many posts, but i have lots of trial and error over the past year. i'm just reiterating what i've found to be fundamental.

hey antimatter...
im not criticizing you.. but why such a thin layer of casing? I just see it as a waste of time to even prepare 50/50 + if you're only going to use a small amount like that.
with a layer that small.. i would have gone with the late casing tek and maybe about twice as thick a casing layer. Thats just in my experience. that casing to me looks like it will hold as much moisture as it would uncased.
I hope it explodes. I've never used straw only, but have heard, and read a lot about one flush wonders. but insane first flushes.
see ya! good luck. and im look'n forward more updates!

i've never used a casing layer more then a quarter inch deep.
no need in it.
your substrate should be at a proper water content where your entire grow does not solely rely on your "casing' layer being wet, that's not what a casing layer is meant for, it's meant for a contam barrier, not hydro supply!

well i just chose an inch because 1 quart of casing is exactly an inch across the sub. surface. I've never had myc taking more than 4 days to engulf the casing. I guess irregardless.. it works either way

THIS is a tray in a fruiting chamber.
The tray takes up most of the bottom of the FC, only a little space around the edge. It's setting on perlite.

This was using about the same amount of sub as this grow. APpLes and OraNgeS
