Importing song list into iTunes without typing manually?
    #8637707 - 07/15/08 12:53 PM (15 years, 10 months ago)

So here's the deal. I downloaded a bunch of songs from the net. I have all the song titles in text format, but the person who uploaded these didn't bother naming the tracks or including a M3U file. All songs say Track 1, Track 2, etc...

What is the easiest way to import the song titles without having to manually type each entry? We're talking 500+ songs here, so typing would be a tedious task to say the least. I thought about scripting, but I wouldn't even know where to start.

Any help would be appreciated.

I was hoping somebody would have a good answer for you.  The best I have heard is using something like Musicmatch Jukebox to fill in the id3 tags for you.  I've not tried it, so I don't know how well it works...

Oh man, I had to do this once, years ago. I found a program... I suspect it was called K-MP3? It was freeware. Anyway it downloads track titles from FreeDB and renames the files. So I could select a bunch of tracks, and tell the program that they're from so-and-so album, and it renames them and tags them.

Tag&Rename will do this.  u can also just get your tunes from a better source where that kind of shit is against the rules.

Yeah that name sounds familiar, I think I tried both T&R and K-MP3. Can't remember which was better.

I'm going to have to check that program out. I ripped all my CDs and the stupid ass ripping program put all the ID3 info in except for track number, so now I have a bunch of albums in alphabetical order. Not cool.

use that for ripping, it may take some time to set up, but it comes w/ step by step instructions on how to set up perfectly to rip music the way u want, at the quality u want, and is unsurpassed by any other program.

Gumby, a neat trick is to sort your tracks by date. Then they'll at least be in the right order.
