Scotts 3-n-1 impressions
    #862465 - 09/03/02 09:57 PM (16 years, 3 months ago)

I did 2 (11x12) trays with Scotts 3-1 (50%) Straw (25%) Vermiculite (25%). I added enough water to make it all moist and pressure cooked at 15psi for an hour and a half. I added a 1/2" layer of soil mix to the bottom of the pan and a 3 pint size cake of spent innoculate crumbled with an inch of the soil mix on top. I left these in the incubator for 5 days, and they both were colonized very nicely. Into the fruiting chamber they went 3 days before any knots appeared and 5 days total before the first noticable pins. 3 days after the first pins was harvest time. Very nice fruits, large and meaty from both trays.
Subsequent flushes were not as abundant and the sizes of the fruits dramatically decreased.
I did not add anything to any of the trays after any of the flushes, but I would suggest doing so as it seems that the first flush took away most of the nutrients.
The only thing conveinent I found with the latter flushes was that when the veils break and the cap starts to open, they uproot themselves and fall over. Saves from trying to twist and shaking off the dirt when harvesting.

I know I probably did many things wrong with these trays, they were my first casings and they worked. I was very pleased with the initial results.
