Found today on moss in a riparian habitat, 41st parallel, MW USA. No dimensions, spore print or other features recorded due to the uniqueness of this mushroom.
This is my first attempt at a macro shot.

Neither did I until now. Volk talks about it in his page on them. I guess they're small scales. A hand lens works great for picking out those details in the field. I've seen a pruinose to pubescent stipe of Mycena subcaerulea that way.

Eat it!
I have eaten them on 2 or 3 occasions, they are like snot inside but a whole lot slimier.
CC dared me to eat one at a fungus fair this spring and I chewed on it for a minute. I think she actually swallowed hers though.

Thanks for the compliments, everyone.
Here's some info: that Leotia lubrica is two weeks old!
I have been watching them grow right along with the Chanterelles and they grow just as slowly. Weird.
