pH of 50/50 plus tek?

Hypo:

Homeboy has a tray of poo in the works that he cased with Aqua Coir that he added a bit of hydrated lime and crushed oyster shell to. He will report the results when they're in. Homeboy orignally started with the 50/50 plus tek that is found in the grow/find section under casings. He became dismayed when his soil pH testing kit indicated that the pH was 13. After running out of vermiculite, he decided to try out a bag of Aqua Coir that had been lying around. It took less than a tablespoon of hydrated lime to raise the pH of a large bowl of Aqua Coir to 8. Has anyone else found problems getting the right pH with the 50/50 plus tek as stated in the grow/find/casings section?

Yes. You should use calcium carbonate instead of calcium hydroxide.
