Phone surveys
    #8618185 - 07/10/08 04:34 PM (15 years, 7 months ago)

Just received a call
''Can I speak to Mr Picklecopter for a survey about...''

Quickly I said I wasn't there (Pretty stupid I know:rolleyes:) and told them calmly never to call again.

The person, who was doing her (It was a girl) job, was not rude or anything.

I just want to know what is the Pub's opinion about phone surveys
I always try to be relax and not rude. but it pisses me off
But, they are just doing their job
It's always an immigrant too, because of the accent
How do they feel about society if most people just tell them to fuck off??

I never answer a survey but I keep in mind that there is another human being on the phone

So?:sun:

Oh and thanks to the WKUK for the name ''Picklecopter''
Funniest name I've ever heard

I worked for a political phone bank called the clinton group for one day, by the time I went home that night I fucking hated myself. 8 hours harassing people you dont know is no way to spend a day. I never even picked up my paycheck.

Why feel bad? 99% of "phone surveys" are fucking bullshit. They ask you questions to see if you meet their criteria for sales, and if you do they pass it on to the actual sellers, who call you back later.

I worked for a telemarketing company that did this.

The only legit surveys are the ones YOU sign up for. I also worked for a marketing research company. These are legit companies that call you up and offer you to do studies to get paid. But again most of these companies call off a list they have of people who specifically ask to be called for these types of things. You can make anywhere from 50-200 bucks for a couple hour survey.

I am freaking amazed that any of these telemarketing and tele-survey companies still exist. Does anyone, anyone at all give them the time of day?  I usually hang up as soon as they mispronounce my last name.  And if I do listen long enough for them to say "We're not trying to sell anything" I always say "Oh good, I'm not trying to buy anything" and I hang up.

I responded to an ad in the paper for a "customer service" position a few weeks ago and went in to fill out an application.  Before I could pick up a pen they pretty much pushed me into an office for an interview.  The guy said not to bother with the rest of that stuff, just fill out the top part with your name address and phone number.  Then he told me the hours, the $7.50/hr wage and a very vague description of the company.  Then he left and some lady came in and said "I looked at your application and I liked what I saw. Can you start tomorrow? Come in for training at 8:30".  I almost laughed in her face because there was almost nothing on the application but my name and number.

I was like whoa whoa whoa I don't even know what this job is.  And finally they gave in and told me that I "wouldn't be selling anything over the phone"  I would just be calling a list of numbers and reading from a script to set up appointments for a free carpet cleaning. I said no thanks.

These people tried to trick me into taking a telemarketing job by rushing me through the application process.  Never before had I called about a job, went in for an interview and offered the job in a matter of hours.  I knew something was up.

If its for research purposes, many of these are paid.  You should have figured out what they wanted.

I love when telemarketers call, since they cannot hang up on you, for the most part at least, I keep them on the phone as long as possible, so it is that much harder for them to get their quota for the day, just shoot he shit for an hour or two.

peace

we get these all the time.

I was bored and thre was an interesting one, but it lasted forever.

on day I was trying to sit down and have a beer, and the phone rings at 9 pm. i found it annoying, and it was someone asking about the various yellow pages.

i bitched them out for calling me that late they said "we dont know what time it is where we are calling, its 10 pm here)

9 pm is too damn late, by any stretch, for that crap.

i decided to help out, I stated i rarely use yellow pages, just white pages.

they then asked me about each and every one of them, i said "same answer for all of them" after 2. they stated it was their policy to have to ask for each one. i finally gave up. you dont need to ask the question when i tell you the answer to each one ahead of time.

what a lame survey anyway.

I worked for "Market Research" company. They had us sit at cubicles and the computer would "randomly" dial people. Their system dialed the numbers and there was no way for us to know exactly who WE called. I don't know how they got their numbers but I don't remember ever not actually getting anyone. I mean we got answering machines but there was never an out of service tone. So they knew the numbers were real so the random number shit didn't seem so random.

We called people and told them who we were...or who we were representing anyways. I was someone else every day. There were several surveys going on at one time in the building. You would ask them to answer some questions and if they took with your little bait scheme over the phone. You got to ask the the polling questions. this was to see if you met the demographic they are looking for. If it was a survey for women only...then you had to be a woman, and in a certain age group. There were brackets and you could only ask so many from each. The computer worked all that out.  The company would only seek out so many from each group. You would ask the questions and it would tell you to hang up or to go on to the "actual" survey.

What really sucked was you would actually get someone who wanted to answer you and 9/10 times their slot was already filled or they didn't meet the requirement for some reason.  Then you have to go on. You would do this so much it would get frustrating. Most people don't want to talk to you at all for any reason. Then you get one that will and they can't.

I had a survey once I had to call women and it was a "hair" survey. I had a woman who had just gone through chemo therapy and she had no hair but she did the whole thing. You can't tell them what the questions meant, it was how they interpreted it. So if they asked you what does that mean, you can't tell them what you think it means, or even if that is what it really did mean. It was up to the person....so she said, well when I had hair it was....

Those companies are bullshit. They solicit info from you and no matter how many times you threaten lawsuits.....the people on the other end are loser fucks or college kids.  So the more pissed you get and the more you threaten the persons life....the more that college student that doesn't give a fuck sets you to be called back in 5 mins. I don't know how many calls I got saying that we have been calling them all the time.  Lord knows I did it all the time. he he he.

I have all sorts of horror stories and funny stories from there....but I eventually got sick of all the bullshit and stress that I quit. Fuck that place. These places steal your soul from you. How can you call a dad on fathers day and try to get shit answered....or on the 4th of July?

I always tell them that i am busy, and then tell them if they give me their home phone number i will call them later. They always tell me that they dont want me to call them at their home, so i tell them that i know how they feel and i hang up on them.

When you get a call fromm a telemarketer, tell them to TAKE ME OFF THE LIST. Legally they have to remove your name from that call list. You are prolly on 10 of thier lists and being taken off the list prolly just puts you on the "2nd time around" list but they have to remove it from the current campaign. If you don't say those actual words, you will be called back. Most companies are shady, but, they want to avoid the small problems for when they get sued. Trust me, they have all the angles covered with lawyers proof reading the scripts and recording a "yes". And don't get suckered into the free trial BS. You have to call and cancel and even if you do they may not do it since they already have your CC# on file. Anytime you buy something online, off TV, from a telemarketer, surveys at the mall or diner and so on are how they put the lists together. You are willingly handing them over that info. I have alot of years at quite a few and know the ins and outs of the biz.

Yeah but you described a telemarketing company, not a true marketing research one obviously. Working at a legit one is actually pretty rewarding. People love you because they are getting money.

That's what we do
Except we spend about an hour and a half interviewing a group of people. Offer 'em all a job and set 'em up for three days of training. We kinda push people into the interview too, when the receptionists aren't in I answer the phones. Honestly I don't feel bad about it, I'm not harming anyone and our pay is a lot better and the job is less shady. People just don't give it the time of day because it's a sales position.

Telemarketing, however, fuck that. I've only met one person who didn't hate their job as a telemarketer.
