Frank Zappa - get to know him...

I figured it was time to write something about this in hopes that a few of you can find a venue of appreciation.
Frank Zappa knew what industry he was in: entertainment. Nobody has ever put on a show like zappa. it wasnt just music, or songs, or phenomenal execution of highly technical concepts. it is a show. there was theater, comedy, satire, tragedy, fantasy, sci-fi, absurdity.
He is the Isaac Asimov of music... he did everything. there isnt one genre or style that you can name that he didnt at one point incorporate. He created an air of familiarity and then took you 3 giant steps to the right.
His acts were poetry in motion, describing itself as it played out making for an inexplicable double-entendre when viewed as a whole.
He had a vision for everything, and it didnt stop with music. Sadly, most dont know him past "Dont eat the yellow snow". But the man was a master of all he touched.
Quote:
On September 19, 1985, Zappa testified before the US Senate Commerce, Technology, and Transportation committee, attacking the Parents Music Resource Center or PMRC, a music censorship organization, founded by then-Senator Al Gore's wife Tipper Gore. The PMRC consisted of many wives of politicians, including the wives of five members of the committee. In his prepared statement, Zappa said
"The PMRC proposal is an ill-conceived piece of nonsense which fails to deliver any real benefits to children, infringes the civil liberties of people who are not children, and promises to keep the courts busy for years dealing with the interpretational and enforcemental problems inherent in the proposal's design. It is my understanding that, in law, First Amendment issues are decided with a preference for the least restrictive alternative. In this context, the PMRC's demands are the equivalent of treating dandruff by decapitation. (...) The establishment of a rating system, voluntary or otherwise, opens the door to an endless parade of moral quality control programs based on things certain Christians do not like. What if the next bunch of Washington wives demands a large yellow "J" on all material written or performed by Jews, in order to save helpless children from exposure to concealed Zionist doctrine?"[162]
and his political prowess didnt stop there...
Quote:
In early 1990, Zappa visited Czechoslovakia at the request of President Václav Havel, a lifelong fan, and was asked by Havel to serve as consultant for the government on trade, cultural matters and tourism. Zappa enthusiastically agreed and began meeting with corporate officials interested in investing in Czechoslovakia. Within a few weeks, however, the US administration put pressure on the Czech government to withdraw the appointment. Havel made Zappa an unofficial cultural attaché instead.[170]
nor did his political fight for first amendment rights in music stop in america... Princes music was being banned in Europe and he went to testify in their court proceedings...
His Discography spans over 30 years and albums... you really are doing yourself a disservice if you havent let Frank wow you.

Definitely my favorite musician. He just did so many different things with his music, it never seems to get old.

but you can catch Dweezil Zappa. I dont have any real life experience to compare frank to dweezil, but from what I saw it is just as good if not better.

frank zappa has to be one of the craziest minds of our time...created some of the most insane, bizarre, and lovely music you could ever think up. one would think..man he must have been on alot of acid, or something! but quite the contrary zappa was against drugs and didnt alow his band members to take them either!

that isnt entirely true. while Frank rarely ever participated, all he ever asked was that his band members be professional and beyond that they could do what they wished. So, if they wanted to drop acid or smoke, they could as long as they were always on their A game for the shows.
