i began to colonize 3 seperate batches in dung/straw. today (day4) i checked in on my babies. lotz of growth, i was very happy. THEN i saw something move. at first i thought that i saw mycelia growing. i was tripping out. but then i noticed it was 2 little things that looked like worms. they were very little and lite white, almost transparent. i noticed about 2 more. i think they are larva. i think i'm fucked. anyone ever seen this. i dont think that this has ever been brought up. by the way, the other two containers are in the same closet but have no contact.

It means you didn`t pastuerize your poo long enough. I had those same larvae in my poo but after pastuerizing they were all killed and the mycelium fed of their decomposing guts. Or something like that

Stamets claims that 2 hrs at 140F will kill larva/eggs (TMC), though I usually do 1 hr at 160F.

The only time I was infected with insects, the population sky rocketed after a few days and I had to toss it. Don't rule out that the substate was fine and somebody flew in dropped off a few eggs. Be sure to check for secondary sources where the little bastards may be hiding. If you have any old compost or mushroom pickings laying around, they might be infected as well. I wonder what a hydrogen peroxide soak or bleach dunk would do to the bugs... something to think about.
