Hydra-Pod Parts - The Bowl
#861296 - 09/03/02 09:08 AM (21 years, 1 month ago) |

Hello, I've found all the parts to make my own Hydra-Pod except for one: The 16" by 5" bowl. I checked several pet stores and the largest plain bowl I've found is 10 1/2". I also looked in Wal-Mart and Home Depot with no luck.
Can anyone tell me where I might find an appropriately sized bowl? I'm considering a clear tupperware-type bowl, but I'd like to know if anyone has found THE bowl yet. Thanks!

Thanks, I found the clouche. It's the big round pan under the cloche that I can't find. I looked at dog bowls, thinking I'd just get a BIG one, but I haven't found one that big. I'm also looking at oil change pans with no luck so far. May have to go clear tupperware or something...

Ahhh... Ok, I was thinking you meant bowl as in a semi-circular, translucent plastic item for use as a lid. I would look into using a 5 gallon bucket to use as a base. Find a mesh pot ("bucket buddy") from somewhere to place in the bucket. This will hold your geolite.

Thanks again!
The 5 gallon bucket would probably work for the old, smaller hydra-pod with the 13" bell, but the new one has an 18" bell and the 18" bell is way too big for a 5 gallon bucket (I know from experience). I need something at least 15" wide at the top. The measurements for the new hydra-pod bottom container is 16" wide x 5" deep...
From the web site The Hydra-Pod unit (approx 16" diam. x 5" tall)

Sounds like you have a fun little hunt ahead of you. Sorry I couldn't really provide any help. I have no idea where you could find a 5" tall container with a 15" diameter. You might be able to find a water collector designed to fit under a large flower pot that fits those dimensions, but that's nothing more than a wild guess.
Good luck!

Yeah, I could probably cut the bottom off a plastic garbage can or something. But then it wouldn't be Perfect
I get the impression that none of the parts is custom made for the Hydra-Pod, so that 16x5 bowl has to be out there somewhere...
Thanks for your help!

Go to our good friend home depot and check out the saucers that go under pots. They used to have ones that were 3-4" high in green or marble i think. i used to use them as duck nests. I dunno if they still have them, or if it'll work, but it's a start.

Sorry, I mean the Desktop Hydra-Pod on the right side of this page: www.hydra-pod.com
It has almost twice the area of the old one but now uses a shorter "bucket" that looks like a very large dog dish or a parts cleaner/oil pan.
Here are the components as listed on the Hydra-Pod site:
The Hydra-Pod unit (approx 16" diam. x 5" tall) Heavy-duty acrylic dome lid (approx 14" tall) 15 liters of Geo-lite medium (lasts a lifetime) Air pump w/ adjustable air flow system Premium grade 24" flexible rubber diffuser rod High-grade silicone airline tubing
I have everything except "The Hydra-Pod unit" which measures approx 16" diameter (much wider than a bucket) and am trying to locate that.
My understanding is that the Hydra-Pod in your image is no longer produced. At least I can't find it on their web site. Thanks!
P.S. Here are some closer shots of the bowl part: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=Growlog&Number=780927&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1
P.P.S. Or like the one in your avatar image...

Out of respect for the creators of the Hydra-Pod, I don't feel it is right to publicly post that information on this board unless I am permitted by them to do so. But a little thinking will get you there.

Say it like it is.
Grow bulk substrates, always going to find it better to deal with and easier. And don`t think just because you are growing for the first time that poo or straw are difficult because they aren`t. Just maintain clean working standards and pastuerize your poo properly and you`ll have mushrooms.
