Apparantly so.. I would never have thought that either. The 2nd flush has started to pin on two trays. I dunked the 3rd one and recased it to see how much of a difference that makes in the flush so that one hasn't started to pin yet, but I bet it does better than the non-dunked one. I'll get some pics up for the 2nd flush when they're a little more mature.

Glad to hear you are having good success... Coir is pretty damn good it's kinda like a pore mans bulk substrate.. The flushes are not as good as say straw and poo but it still works..

Yeah I think I might do straw and poo for the next batch. I also read a tek using boil-a-bags, a food can with rock wool and vermiculite as a filter, and straight straw that looked promising. I think from everything I've read straw w/ hpoo is the best substrate so that seems like the thing to do if I can find some hpoo to use. I guess cow poo would work too but I'm not sure if the store bought bags would work or not. They're easy to find though so I might give it a whirl and see what happens.

Here's the 2nd flush from the Ecuador - about the same amount as the 1st flush. Not too dense. This one wasn't dunked - just recased with damn verm after 1st flush. One thing I noticed is the 2nd flush did have some larger caps than the 1st one.. maybe because I fanned them more with a handheld fan/mister.

Nice work with straight coir, some nice fruits there.
Just curious as to what brand of coir was used and was this multi-spore inoculation?

It's earth something from petco or petsmart i think.. can't remember right now. This was syringe to WBS. The pics above are Ecuador and the bigger 1st flush was amazonian.

I dunked in the sink under running water for an hour with a brick on top to keep the sub from floating. I made sure to leave the water gently running per RR's post somewhere on the board to prevent contams from taking hold while dunking. I think you could probably dunk longer, but the sub felt pretty hydrated after an hour so I left it at that. I recased with pasteurized Jiffy Mix (just a little) and put it back in the FC.

2nd flush 1st tray of PESA:
Here they're almost ready to harvest.
Right before harvest - not too many caps but bigger ones than the first flush by far.

It always seems that successive flushes usually provide larger fruits than the first/previous flushes.

The one tub that I dunked and recased with jiffy mix only has like 3 little pins showing through the casing.. and they're all in different areas. One on either end of the tub and one right in the middle. Kind of strange that there aren't more pins I think since I dunked it. If it doesn't do any more than these three then non-dunking will have outperformed it by quite a bit. I'm hoping that in the next day or so more will pop up. the 3 that are there now are still really small.

what are you doing AFTER you dunk? sounds like you are getting a shitty pinset after dunking.. that would explain the lack of mushies.. How are you treating the casing after you dunk?

I am geting ready to do some popcorn to coir for the first time.. I was just wondering how much you guys pay for coir.. I picked up a brick of it at a local pet store 100% organic coir bedding it says.. It was in the lizard section and only cost me $2.99 for a brick and I bought 6 of them the last six they had in stock being that it is so cheap and it's a good starting bulk substrate for a noob..
