wiss: the reason for covering them after casing is to hold in most of the CO2 and keep them in colonization mode while they reach up through the casing layer a bit. Then when you remove the foil or cover and put into the FC, they are exposed to the typical pinning triggers all at once (light, FAE, high humidity).

Gotcha.. that makes sense. I covered em up last night so they were only in the FC about an hour or less which shouldn't have messed them up I don't think. I'll check them in a couple of days to see if the myc is pushing up through the casing layer before I fruit them. Hopefully by using hyphae's method it'll speed up the overall process and lead to a really good pinset.

July 28th harvest - little late as they had sporulated in the FC and made a mess, but a decent harvest for my first run ever.

Wish the ecuador flush would have been bigger. I think it'll probably only be a couple of oz's dry. The amazon first flush was great though. I decided since I'm short on time right now that I'd recase the substrate with some damp vermiculite to rehydrate the microclimate since it seemed very dry. I'll continue misting a couple or three times a day to keep the moisture level optimal and see what happens from there. Not sure anything will since at least one of the amazon trays sporulated everywhere. It happened literally within 36 hours of my last check on them when they were just little pinheads. I expected to have at least a couple of more days before I had to harvest but lo' and behold i opened up the door and BAM there they were! lol. Lesson learned.. next run when I do some golden teachers I'll do better.

I'd wager that you'll have even better results since you put some coffee in your coir. I didn't do that this round, but I probably will next round as well as some gypsum for ph balance in the casing and maybe some oyster shells if I can find them in time. For now I'm waiting on my GT wbs jars to colonize and the 2nd+ flushes to come from these tubs. I have 3 pint brf cake jars of different varieties I'm going to try something with just not sure what yet. Will probably crumble them into coir the way I do wbs.

coffee isn't the only thing to add.
I generally put malt extract, coffee, karo, calc carb, some boiled down beer (non alcohol), and a little oil, just a tsp, and it seems to do ok.
I never find coir to have a good 2nd or 3rd flush though.

Well.. final first flush update: I harvested and dried them to a final weight of roughly 4.5oz. - not too bad.. 3.5oz amazon, 1oz ecuador. We'll see how the 2nd flush does .. hopefully better. I think one of the problems with the first flush was too high humidity for a cased substrate.. I was running around 98% humidity consistently when I should have been around 85-90%. After doing some more reading I read RR's info on the topic so I have cut some more slits in the GH to compensate for the humidity levels being so high. Round 2... ding ding ding.

This is encouraging. My coir bulk experiments are almost ready for the FC. Got 3 trays. Those look like some robust fruitage.

The one thing I would note about this grow is watch the progress closely. I missed picking at the optimal time by like 12 hours and they spooged everywhere. At least the amazonian did. They really shot up fast.. way faster than I expected. That might not be true for all strains but this one did for sure.
