Is goat shit any good. Can you seed them with an apple like you can a cow

You might be able to use goat manure as a bulk substrate, but I tend to doubt "seeding" a goat with a spore laden apple will do much of anything. As far as I know, cubensis only occur in the wild within the vicinity of bovine dung.

Either way, try it and report back to us. It might work and you probably won't lose much attempting it.

Goats will eat just about anything.  Even though it probably won't work and will be a waste of a good print, why not feed them a spore print, foil and all, for fun?  The goat will love you for it!!

Hell, if your going to feed a goat a print? Feed the SOB a dozen prints. Betters the odds, LOL. IMHO, a cow or horse would be a better choice, to feed spores to.

Your better off, feeding spores to sterilzed quarts of bird seed or grain.

Okay, can't find any more info on goat shit as a bulk substrate. Has anyone tried this at all? I've got access to a lot of hot, fresh goat poo (mmm), pre-mixed with straw, and I definitely think it's got a chance.

Contrary to the statements of the poster above, though, I don't think you should go around feeding goats tin foil. Just thought I'd toss that in. Apparently he takes his veterinary advice from Merry Melodies.

Don't goats only eat hay n stuff? If their is no meat in their diet it should work from what I have read. I think heard about someone using goat poo...

Yes, but failing more recent information...

Wouldn't you agree that bringing up a four year old post is better than starting a new post on the same topic? Which seems to be what all my fellow newbies do.

Anyway, glad someone else could find that in the search. I did search, or else I wouldn't have found this, but somehow I must've missed the only actually informative post on goat poo on this forum. Good to see it doesn't work, or at least good to find it out before experimenting on my own. Makes me wonder, though, what's so different about their digestive system, considering they seem to eat similar vegetation.

And I guarantee you that, Agar or not, anyone who advocates feeding goats tin foil is dead wrong and either joking or retarded. Goats eat tin cans in cartoons, but don't just shove shit down their throat yelling "hee hee, I bet he'll eat these here rocks too!". I actually was referring to another poster though, a few up--Mickey_Rourke, not SixTango. Not sure which you thought I was referring to so I thought I'd clarify. Someone who's smart about mushrooms might not be so smart about what you feed goats, either way--but then people do tend to deify forum experts on the internet.

By NO MEANS, would I advocate feeding goats aluminum foil.
Prints are not always on tin foil.
Hell, I feed my dogs a better diet.
Than half the worlds human population eats.

Goat poo works.
It is not as good as h/poo.
Goats do eat a lot of strange things.
I have watched them eat young black berry vines.
All day long.

Horses usually have a grass/hay/oats diet.
Which has a far better END result. :glittershitz:

Apologies for any confusion as to which post I was responding to, or who was who, or who said what, et cetera et cetera. All over now.

So goat poo does work to some degree? The linked post was giving really negative results, like "might as well try spawning to your own poo"-type results. I know for a fact though that these goats are kept in a pretty small, relatively bare enclosure, and eat only straw (since they've long since destroyed every other plant in their pen). I might give it a shot one day for that reason, though for now the more I read about spawning to straight coir the more I want to give that a go instead. Nice, clean, compact, no need for aging... Playing with coconut fibers is more fun than playing with animal poop.
