Look guys, I am 100% a newbie, and not afraid to admit it, coz hey, everyone has to start somewhere. But I found some mushrooms growing in some newly laid grass in my neighbor's yard. I can't post a picture because I have no digital camera or scanner or anything. The gills are a very light brown and the cap is pointed, almost triangular. It also has somewhat of a nipple (I don't know what else to call it) on the top of the cap. I live in southern New Jersey if that is any help. I'm sorry for the lack of information, but I don't know what else is needed for any kind of identification. Thanx!

Me thinks you should try to narrow it down by searching at photos online and maybe doing a compare/contrast. i doubt what information you've collected is enough for any kind of accurate response.

well first you're going to have to do a spore print, post it on here as to what color it turns out. also try cutting the stem near the base and see what color it bruises.
and if you find a picutre online that resembles you mushrooms, post it here to help us id them

http://www.erowid.org/plants/show_image.php3image=mushrooms/psilocybe_semilanceata12.jpg <-------- this link is to a picture that very much resembles my finding. Is it even possible to find these in my area? I am getting the spore prints ASAP, but this site says the get them on aluminum foil, but if the spores are on foil, how can I see the color???

Oh, and I forgot to say that the stem is white, hollow, and very thin. I also forgot to add that the cap is brown.

Well to see the color of the spore print you wait for them to fall and then you look at it and see what color it is.

I gotthe spores. They are a brown color. Actually, they are more a rusty color. Are they active?

The growth in grass and rusty brown spores suggests Galerina, a genus noted for having some of the most deadly poisonous mushrooms known. If you want psilocybin you should be looking for black or very dark purplish spore prints. Avoid any mushroom with a rusty brown spore print.
