Here is another Amanita found while on a hike today. Probably frostiana but not for sure. I am over my weekly limit half way through.

It's obviously an Amanita, but as far as it being muscaria var formosa or not, there is a possibility. I think I see some remnants of concentric rings on the stem base, but they wear away fast, so in the older stages, it's harder to be sure.

The bugs really chewed that one to shit, if it had the rings I'd say amanita muscaria var. formosa.

It's just like the story of the grasshopper and the octopus.
All year long, the grasshopper kept burying acorns for winter, while the
octopus mooched off his girlfriend and watched TV.
But then the winter came, and the grasshopper died, and the octopus ate all his acorns.
Also he got a race car.
Is any of this getting through to you?

Not sure that this is frostiana, I don't think this is really a transluscent-striate margin.

It looks like the pics I have seen of death caps with a striate margin - Its not really striate, its just that the gill texture shows through the cap in age.

Also the volva doesn't look like it is bulbous with a collar like frostiana, but maybe it was when the mushroom was younger.

I think its more likely to be A. flavoconia or maybe even a a muscaria variant.

Maybe, it would help to see some more pics in different stages of development.

I plan on going back to the same forest this weekend. So I will keep on looking. I think I found some destroying angel's as well. Here are a few pics. I didn't take any measurements though.

The volva is wrong for that species, A. albocreata has a collar like ring on the top of a bulbous veil.

The veil on this one is more cup like and I think it is one of the destroying angels.
