Before I start my research on the combined affects of alcohol and psilocybin, I wanted to get any insight I could from the board.
I'm curious about what neurological affects psilocybin has over alcohol when both are consumed.
In a personal experiment, I was intoxicated with alcohol (about .06 BAC) and then ingested psilocybin mushrooms (about 2.8 dried grams). I noticed the affects of the alcohol were diminished when the affects of the psilocybin initialized.
My simple analysis was that psychoactive stimulants are stronger than depressants like alcohol, but I would like to delve deeper into the science of what actually happens.
When the affects of the psilocybin started to ware off, the affects of the alcohol became more apparent, so alcohol wasn't nullified, but the psilocybin's affects were definately stronger.
Any thoughts, ideas, threats, etc. is welcome.

Alcohol, in any amount, can ruin a trip. I've tripped after 2 beers and was extremely tired and disoriented. All I wanted to do was go to bed and couldn't. I hated it. Always bad trips for me when alcohol is mixed in.
Now E is another story altogether...

I faired somewhat differently, My trip was good. But my objective was to find out what neurological changes occur when psilocybin and alcohol are mixed and why the affects of the psilocybin seem to diminish some of the alcohol affects.
Basically I want to find out what happens in the brain when you're drunk, then you take shrooms... some of the drunk feels like it goes away and the psychedelic affect over-powers the drunk affect, it also makes you more alert, more focused, less slurring, and has an anti-depressant affect aswell... that is, in my experiment it did.

This may be slightly different than what you are asking for, but a couple weeks ago i ate 3,5 grams mushrooms and after about the 4th hour i started drinking. (it wasnt planned that way) i noticed that the effects of the comedown went away as soon as i started drinking. its like after hour 4 and some vodka i was completely at baseline except for the alcohol buzz

Slightly. Alcohol and psilocybin definitely 'react' to each other in some ways. When I shroom cold (with nothing else) I feel like I have the flu when I'm coming down... it's considerably different with alcohol in the system.
I appreciate the feedback, my main focus, however, is the neurological affects, processes & explanations....
Something Like explaining alcohol withdrawal; the neurological affect is that the Neurotransmitters' function are altered when alcohol depletes itself from the brain, when the neurotransmitters don't function properly, they send skewed messages to the body, causing the heart and lungs to operate differently, raising blood pressure and heart rate etc.
I know this isn't a neurology board, but it is related to the science of psilocybin.

I like to drink when I start coming down as well, helps a lot, I agree. 2 weeks ago, I made the mistake and over did it. On the way to a club in Houston, I drank a mixture of a medium/medium-high dose of P.E uncut cubes and 151..like almost a pint of 151. I don't remember much..I remember saying I just wanna wake up and feeling like I was stuck in a nightmare..first and ONLY bad trip I've ever had. I think I will stick to waiting until I come down to drink from now on, and after my experience I would suggest to anyone who is planning on tripping/drinking a large amount together be EXTREMELY careful. Had I not had my girlfriend and brother with me, I might have been S.O.L.

if i'm in the mood to be drinking on shrooms, then it's fun. It makes me a lot gigglier, and sillier. But I really enjoy a clean shroom high as well. It makes me really quiet though when I drink. I never have anything to say i just listen to others and laugh a lot lol.

Shamans even discourage drinking alcohol, and sugars before using a teacher plant.... it has something to do with changing your bodily vibrations.

I was drinking before the tom petty concert, then dropped 2 hits of acid on the way in and felt pretty sick, not combining alcohol with psychedelics anymore.

I have heard of a huachumero drinking corn beer while brewing san pedro.
but i guess he already has a relationship with the plant established so maybe it doesn't matter.
i generally avoid alcohol before and directly after tripping.

I have noticed that if I am on shrooms and I start drinking liquor that the alcohol completely overpowers the psychedellic qualities of the trip...

i disagree with everyone here. ime it's best to be drunk and then eat the mushrooms. to be, i am drunk and i am tripping. every effect of the booze and mushrooms are present. i love it.

I've dosed mushrooms many times after a long night of drinking. Say 15 beers and then coming home and dosing a 1/4 by myself. Awesome trips, less paranoid, more confident. Once the trips settled in the drunkness was noticeably gone. I Usually pass out during the comedown, which I really liked since I always find it had to sleep.
I should note that I would not consume any alcohol during the experience, and I have never had a hang over the next day.
Overall I've had some awesome trips like that, but I dont do it anymore. Was more of my younger years when alcohol had to consumed every weekend.

Let's see... ethanol = GABA release up,
GABA up = serotonin release (likely) down,
Psilocin = increased serotonin receptor uptake
