Quote:
WASHINGTON - People would rather barbecue burgers with Barack Obama than with John McCain
While many are still deciding who should be president, by 52 percent to 45 percent they would prefer having Obama than McCain to their summer cookout, according to an Associated Press-Yahoo News poll released Wednesday.
Men are about evenly divided between the two while women prefer Obama by 11 percentage points. Whites prefer McCain, minorities Obama. And Obama is a more popular guest with younger voters while McCain does best with the oldest.
Having Obama to a barbecue would be like a relaxed family gathering, while inviting McCain "would be more like a retirement party than something fun," said Wesley Welbourne, 38, a systems engineer from Washington, D.C.
Party label means a lot, with three-quarters of Democrats picking the Democrat Obama and the same number of Republicans picking McCain, a Republican. Independents are about evenly split.
"John and I would probably have a lot to talk about," said Republican Michael Mullen, 53, of Merrimac, Mass., like McCain a Navy veteran.
One in six people saying they'd vote for McCain prefer Obama as their barbecue guest; just one in 20 Obama backers would invite McCain.
The AP-Yahoo News survey of 1,759 adults was conducted online by Knowledge Networks from June 13-23 and had an overall margin of sampling error of plus or minus 2.3 percentage points. The margin of sampling error for subgroups was larger.
Heavens to Betsy! Who would want McCain around their kids when he's capable of flashing back to Vietnam at any moment? Results still out on who people would prefer to barbecue ribs with.

This is almost as stupid as comparing which assclown you'd rather sit down and have a beer with.

Reminds me of the popularity contests in high school. I don't really care who is the better BBQ host. This is a presidential election, not a competition to be Martha Stewart's new assistant.

BTW it's in the Chicago Sun as well...so there!;)

But hot damn this survey isn't even accurate!

you don't barbecue burgers. You grill them or fry them. BBQ consists of slowly cooking meat in sauce in a special BBQ cooker, preferrably a pit dug in the ground filled with coals and then covered by a large piece of scrap metal.
I guess this another example of liberal vegetarian bias in the media!

> I beg to differ, this thread can possibly enlighten you on barbecue
Just because somebody mistakenly calls a grill a BBQ doesn't mean you are correct. I'm with gluke bastid on this one... but then, I grew up south of the Dixie Line and we (my family) take BBQ very seriously. (kinda red neckish, isn't it? )

A 15 page OTD thread about BBQ? No thanks, I'm not that bored.
Suffice to say anyone who mistakes grilling meat with barbecuing meat is an ignoramus
I would be happy to school them with some slow cooked brisket. Especially if Obama were there.

I'll give you the wiki on it then
Quote:
Barbecue or barbeque[1] (abbreviated BBQ, Bar-B-Q or Bar-B-Que or diminuted, chiefly in Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom to barbie, and Braai in South Africa) is a method and apparatus for cooking food, often meat, with the heat and hot gases of a fire, smoking wood, or hot coals of charcoal and may include application of a marinade, spice rub, or basting sauce to the meat. The term as a noun can refer to foods cooked by this method, to the cooker itself, or to a party that includes such food. The term is also used as a verb for the act of cooking food in this manner. Barbecue is usually cooked in an outdoor environment heated by the smoke of wood or charcoal. Restaurant barbecue may be cooked in large brick or metal ovens specially designed for that purpose.
Barbecue has numerous regional variations in many parts of the world. Notably, in the United States, practitioners consider barbecue to include only relatively indirect methods of cooking, with the more direct high-heat methods to be called grilling.
rednecks didnt invent the word/method of cooking so they have little say in how it's used unless they toss in the phrase "God fearin' 'Merican" and celebrate with the traditional Budweiser toast

This Yankee knows the difference and smoked a beautiful brisket last Sunday. Also somehow found some baked beans that could not have been made by anything other than an angel (was I possessed momentarily? Maybe) It is not Yankees who have no clue but liberals. Conservatives know their 'cue.

I'll address the relevant conversation first.

Typically, when using a citation to defend your position it's a good idea to read the whole thing. Personally, I have never thrown, "another shrimp on the barbie, mate." If you have, then you are from the DEEP south. Har har.

I like the idea of putting both McCain and Obama into a pit filled with smoldering coals. I still wouldn't eat the meat, though; McCain is liable to be loaded with preservatives.

Phony? You mean how he actually thinks about his statements and McCain can't even read a fucking teleprompter and doesn't know that Al Qaeda is not in Iran? Or how bout how Obama spent his time writing notes during debates... you know... thinking about what he is going to say instead of saying premade statements?
Why don't you take a look at McCain's smiles.... looking fake as fuck. Not to mention dissing the religious psychos, then siding with them, then backing away...
