A better test would be to test the creativity of individuals under the influence of lsd. Get them to do drawings/paintings or compose music at different stages of the trip. i wouldn't be surprised if you found more complex creative thoughts in most people.

I will overlook the fact that measuring 'creativity' is quite difficult, but there is an article wherein an artist makes a drawing like every 30-60 minutes on an acid trip. The pictures are posted somewhere. (YOU do the search)
It is a sample size of one person, but does not bear out your premise.

I mean, why take a test when the growth of your wallpaper is so much more interesting?

There is no way I could ever focus for long enough to take an IQ test while tripping. I'd be surprised if I made it more than 10 minuets into the test before I wondered off.

Thus spake Mozart!
I was going to post some really trippy music I wrote while peaking, but you inspired me to post a piano composition I did while on about 3 grams. It is more about emotion than structure. Pardon the heavy-handedness of it. I tend to work out issues on my keyboards.

"One of the least known facts about the LSD research in the 1960s was that the longest single research project with LSD, at Spring Grove Hospital, Maryland, showed an average 10% increase in linear IQ alone as well as the meta-programming vistas and neurogenetic awakenings popularized by the outlaw LSD culture and its gurus." - Robert A. Wilson, Prometheus Rising.
slightly ambiguous but should be an interesting experiment with the right dosage.

I just took Blew's IQ test while completely baked. I'd imagine if you were on amanitas you'd score over 20 points higher than normal. I remember being curious what amanitas would do to you mentally because they're such weird mental highs. And I actually played curveball and averaged about 8,000 points more than I normally get.

There's a famous study where experimenters temporarily 'lesioned' a part of the human brain in participants using TMS, allowing more creative parts of the brain to take over normal function.
They list a number of things they used to test for increased creativity, one of which was simply drawing a dog or a horse. Under the influence of the TMS, people would draw more complex versions of the animal, different perspectives, inserted a storyline, etc. etc.

Perhaps you could do a similar test?

I scored 142 on an IQ test while tripping once (about 1g of mushrooms).
The test was far different than I had ever seen! It was an entrance exam for the "Cerebral" high IQ society (they only accepted the top 1% of the population). The test consisted of 8 "questions", each consisting of a set of numbers/symbols where you had to enter the last 5 symbols on about 5 lines. There was no real math involved and definitely no language, just pattern matching.

Is intelligence the measurement of the ability to associate?
This seems to be a very good definition to me.
From this though, I do not think the word "genius" should be derived, which is an artistic quality.
A genius creates associations, but the process itself is not association, its creation. Certainly it leaves a trail of associations, but lets not mistake this for the actual process.

Intelligence is a measure of intelligence.. it's a created measure that shows nothing in particular other than what an intelligence test measures. It has no real implications, it's based on pattern-matching, using logic and problem solving... some versions might have (age specific) common knowledge Qs and other stuff in there as well.

So let me get this straight, your saying the IQ test is what defines intelligence?
Do these tests measure "everyday" intelligence?

They measure your ability to recognize patterns, and to quickly learn how to answer the questions. Often times there isnt a consistent method from question to question.
Take my test and find out

'Intelligence' is just a made up word, and its often used as the premier example in psychology of useless constructs that mean nothing. Strictly, it's nothing more than a measure of how well you do on an 'intelligence test'.
The saying goes "intelligence is just a measure of how well you perform on an intelligence test" and it's often quoted as an example of how psychologists sometimes abuse 'folk psychology' terms without thought to precisely what they represent. The definition is circular, i know, that's the point of the saying.
Intelligence as a whole concept is just a made up concept that shouldn't be taken too seriously unless you're a lazy employer who finds appealing the fact that by giving a thousand applicants an IQ test before you interview them, you can wipe out 950 of them without having to lift a finger. IQ tests only really have use for lazy employers and (more legitimately) for people in education. IQ represents potential and problem-solving ability more than what we would normally call 'intelligence'.

No, the questions were much longer....
Something like:
10101010101010101010 _ _ _ _ _ 01010101010101010101 _ _ _ _ _ 10101010101010101010 _ _ _ _ _ 01010101010101010101 _ _ _ _ _
Where you would have to enter the last 5 digits per line. Please note that this isn't one of the questions on the test! Each question was harder than the last, and gave no hint whatsoever as to how you were supposed to answer the question (in fact, there was nothing written anywhere on the test...just the question number followed by something like what you see above).
