the best system to have is good neighbors

 i'm sorry but that is hilarious. unless you mean that you live in the hood and that neighbors won't rob you if you know them, what good are your neighbors to the burglar that breaks in at 2-3pm on a weekday? the best a neighbor could do is write down a license plate number and call the cops. the cops will still have a terrible response time and unless they see the face of the driver, and its the owner of the car, the plate is nothing but a poor lead for the cops.

you are right, a motion detector on the second floor is pretty worthless. but a phone line only matters if you don't have cellgaurd, and even still the alarm siren would go off sans land-line. regardless of a monitoring centers response time, the cops still rarely show up fast enough to catch the invader. and no decent company is going to install your siren in the master control panel lockbox, so foaming the siren is out. it sounds like you dealt with an idiot who was trying to make a quick commission.

I nailed a friend of 12 years in the eye when he shoplifted
something while he was with me, I left his blackened eye in the
parking lot still attached to his retarded ass. last thing I
need is someone to get me busted because he though it was cool

I've not met a thief that had morals, all the thieves I've know
lie about it, thieves just make for people I"m not willing to trust

lady across the street came flying up my driveway holding an
'unexpected guest' at the end of a shotgun for 30 minutes until
the cops and I arrived, I got a phone call that woke me up to
tell me a red truck was pulling up my driveway from another
neighbor prior to me living on the property but having things stored here.

when my neighbors are gone I monitor their place, drive up,
check doors and windows, check the outbuildings and such, I talk
with the other neighbors as well, I guess this is all foreign to
you though, it occured even when I lived in the ghetto, no one
messed with my shit, the neighbors looked out for each other

BTW, I still have the red truck, apparently they didnt want to
come back for it, a hole in the engine block kinda made it less
functional, cops say it's not stolen but it also isnt registered
in this state so they dont know who it belongs to

foam in the speaker kills the volume of the siren, it's almost
inaudible when you stand next to it, most people after the
contract term expires, drop the monitoring anyway so even cell
guard is pointless

I supervised the installation of my alarm, the sirens (4) were
mounted in a couple of locations both inside and outside the
house, I wanted it to be unpleasant for an intruder and to alert
anyone within 5 blocks that something was happening in the
neighborhood, it was effective, especially when someone would
come home and forget about the alarm

BTW, is this where you mount the master control box?

Prisoner, i will have to agree that the only time my neighbors even watched out for our house was in the roughest area i've lived in. still, thats a one-in-a-million story, and its pretty cool.

personally the main reason i would get monitoring is the Fire and EMS aspect of it, moreso than burglary. and statistically speaking, most people have monitoring for 9 years on their systems, which is 3x the length of most contracts, and cell guard is necessary for a lot of new home owners who dont bother to get a land-line (about 40% here).

i understand what you're saying about the siren, but out of the five security companies i have worked with, not one ever placed the siren inside of the Master Control Panel (the lock-box which is usually installed in the master bedroom closet), so I'm just saying that a burglar will not know exactly where the siren is before he breaks in.
