black cap=abort
turn to goo=bacteria
It's normal to have aborts but you should pick them before they turn to mush

i had a friend eat a cap that was all black, and he said it was like moosh, he later dry heaved for hours.

some times caps will turn black if they are left on the cake to long they start to die. Just remove them before that happens!!

I have like 15 ones with black caps that had a thin layer of oily black stuff on top after leaving the mushies without light for like 5 days alone. They are currently drying and inside the stem it is white, nothing inside. Is this just rot? or is it a contamination and should i get rid of the whole cap or just keep it on if its dried?

If in doubt, throw it out
black oily caps = bacterial problems..
maby pseudomonaes (spelling)

nope, not the psuedos, they are beneficial and live in casings. I forget the name of the bacteria, but it is commonly reffered to as bacterial blotch. Air exchanges and/or lower humidity will clear it up.

Don't eat it unless it somehow turns back to it's orginal color, it is always best to just pick it before it turns black, imho.
